Take a lap. Did you see?
I want to hear how oldgoat and others stay fit past them 40’s. Turning 50 myself soon.

Thread drift is one of the only things keeping this place alive. You gotta root around like a snowshoer on acid and see what you find.
Two impossible choices!… How can you choose one over the other?
the 50's were great IME, just sayin , I was in better shape in the 50's than 40's cuz I wasnt wrking

10 years from now each of us will look back at the age we are now and think about how great that age was. Go get ‘em mags. Go big and go long. You’ll never be this young again.

I picked up pickle ball and golf this year and have had injuries from bothRiding my bike remains the one thing that does not cause disability.
^^ Damn that's a lot of screws in one place.
Honestly the worst injuries I ever seem to hear about from the super athletic 40's crowd around here are usually caused by a) softball or b) a townie bike crash.
I'm 53 so have some experience. I can't say I feel much different, to be honest. Keep working out hard and make sure you rest when you need to. Don't overeat or overdrink.
I know I need to work in more weight training, but haven't been able to get myself to commit to it.
don't blow a body part so don't get hurt, enough things will eventualy quit working very well even without you doing something stupid
As oposed to wanking on about how " the BMI doesnt work for me " try to be as close to normal as you can, if you got a gut it ain't the BMI thats not working

Im 58 and have to remind myself I’m way older than the target demo for this thread. I feel as fit as 40 and do pretty much everything ive always done on skis and or bike. Some of it better - partly newfangled equipment and partly just more reps. Not as fast but not slow either. The main thing is it takes a looong time to heal up. Also, like said earlier, don’t blow a body part out if you can help it. My current ACL injury is bumming out my summer
OK, Im WAY over the target group here. 64 yrs but here my .02
The only thing harder then getting in shape, is letting yourself get out of shape then try to get back in shape. Year round effort. Joe Friel book, Fast after 50 he has a saying, nobody is over trained, they are just under recovered and as you age you need more down time, also, shifting from 7 days weeks go to a 10 day plan. I ride bikes a LOT, gravel, road, MTN. I have been better at the MTN style as I have backed off a little as crashing really really sucks and the down time makes getting back in shape 2X as bad so gravel and road are 80% of my time. I just finished a 235 miles over 10 days training block. I do weights in the winter...sometimes. Find a groups to train with, it keeps the interest up. Sign up for something, that makes a goal to keep.
For cycling I use Trainers Road, a good plan to follow for what ever you want to do.
