Refrigerator Recommendations?

Anybody have experience with Samsung? I know KitchenAid is good but a little out of my price range.

We bought matching Samsung appliances for our kitchen.
Dishwasher likes to take a piddle on the floor from the steam vent occasionally.
Stove is fine.
Fridge is nice. We got Zoolander-style water, instead of on the door, and I really prefer it.

Dual compressor design has its advantages of keeping the chosen temperatures independent. Single compressor designs require that the freezer coldness drive the cool compartment.

I know Subzero doesn't have the best rep for repairs, but we have had 3 and they've been great.

I was skeptical (wife lead the charge on ours) but the thing that I've noticed is how much longer things stay good in the cooler, milk, cheeses, veggies, lettuce in particular.

If going to the market frequently doesn't bother you, no biggie. But for us, being in more remote locations, it's been nice to have things stay fresh longer.

Freezer - freezing and fridge part - warm indicates the cold air passage from the freezer to regular part is blocked (frozen), a very easy fix if you're willing to partially disassemble the interior. Or just unplug it for a few days. Google the issue with your model, you might luck out and find step by step instructions.

Yeah - the port is either clogged, the fan to move the air is fucked or the coils aren’t defrosting I’m guessing. In any case I’m not sure I can motivate to fix it.

Never again with stainless or Sub Zero for me. Has anyone bought something that fit in a pre-built Sub Zero )counter depth) space that isn't a Sub Zero? I see that in my not too distant future.

We have a Samsung with the family hub screen on it. Had it a few years and just the other day had the icemaker freeze up, cycled it off for a few days and back on and everything seems fine now. Ours has four doors, the lower right compartment is completely adjustable, can be a freezer, fridge, or crisper with multiple temp settings. This allows a lot of flexibility, I usually keep it just above freezing and use it for meats and beverages. Throw a pound of ground beef from the butcher in there and a week later it’s still pink and not frozen. Beers=properly chilled.

The screen was just techy enough for me to spend the 4k on the fridge. My kids mirror our living room samsung TV on it a lot. I use it for recipes, bigger screen than my ipad pro, it surfs the web just fine.

My insight on SZ is that they're just not worth the crazy money you have to pay. I have had more repairs on all these fancy and expensive appliances than is really imaginable. In the half of my life before I had fancy stuff I don't think I ever once called an appliance repairman.

Maybe all of them are just junk anymore, but the repair shop fucking loves me way more than they should.

I’m renting a place with a Jenn-Air. It really does seem to keep stuff fresh for a long time. It hasn’t needed any service in the three years I’ve been living with it.

I've got one of these and I'm a fan, specifically because there's nothing on the front and has more industrial-looking handles, I'm not a fan of the swoopy handles on the Whirlpool models even though they're basically identical. Still makes ice and can dispense water from the inside, but has a clean appearance.

We just remodeled the kitchen in the fall and while it's a full depth fridge, it's built-in in such a way that it looks counter depth at half the cost and has more storage space. If you have the space to pull that off, I'd highly recommend it - having the fridge flush with cabinets/counter is awesome.

So I bought this one. Good reviews, good reco here, good price. Thought it would fit but now I am spending some time ripping out some cabinets above it as my old fridge was apparently a weird height.

I need to absolutely flush and clean the water line from under the sink to the fridge as it has been stagnant for years. i havent found a solid tutorial on how to do this - it seems like each description either involves a line that doesnt drop below the floor, limiting gravitational help, or is to simply clean the fridge unit and not the line. Anyone have any tips on how to flush some vinegar through this thing?

Why does it go into the floor? We had to put one in once and just ran it through the back of the cabinets..? I was cheap and easy and could just be replaced.

We looked at all the fancy built ins from Kitchenaid, Sub Zero, Gaggenau(holy shit these are nice), Thermador, Dacor (The best IMHO), etc. The tech at the store told us about GE Monogram. He said he did the fewest service calls on those, and they take normal old GE parts, so service was easy and cheap and quick if needed. Pretty happy with it, except we only had room for the 36" model, so space is limited.

I work in construction, so I get to go to the builder shows every once in a while. At the 2018 show LG was showing a high end line that looked amazing. They didn't make a 36" model, so I didn't really look at them, but that might be a nice option for you- warranty was like 10 years I think.

Single reviews on the interwebs isn't the kinda sampling you're looking for but I have a love/hate going on with Samsung. Bought 4 Samsung appliances as a package and everything but the fridge has been bullet proof. The fridge is French door, ice, water, freezer on the bottom. Probably exactly what you're looking for. BUT, the thing accumulates water under the crisper due to ice build up (and thaw) on the compressor. Most importantly, it's a known problem and Samsung basically told me to fuck off when marginally out of warranty. Vowed I wouldn't buy anything Samsung ever again. Fuck em.

The drain for the fridge defrost is frozen. There's a fix to add a copper wire to the defrost coil that can be found online. Was a PITA to defrost the drain tube and could but hasn't frozen up since. Pm for details if needed.

Heh. The last time I rolled through a best buy, some kids hacked into the fridges, connected them to the in store wifi, and were posting porn pics on them. The whole lineup of fridges was like flipping through a penthouse.

I’m a big fan of Samsung TVs, not so much their appliances. I have the matching washer/dryer set where the washer explodes if you try to wash sheets. Dryer is dying. Also had a dishwasher that didn’t last 4 years before throwing an error that required more in labor to fix than I paid for the damn thing.

We just got a new whirlpool dishwasher that seems nice...we’ll see how long it lasts.

Samsung appliances are garbage. I’ve seen a fridge and clothes washer die. The new Samsung stove my home came with is a piece of shit.

Slightly OT, Just got off the phone ordering 2 fucking plastic replacement parts for my GE Fridge.

The original unit cost me around 500 bucks when bought in about 2007 so it has lasted around 12 years. According to CR that is probably beyond what I should have expected.

Those 2 plastic pieces of crap cost me a bit over 200 clams.
