    And, damn, I must be sleeping…
    Not sure how I missed this popular fan theory about Maverick’s death, but I did.
    First I heard about it was the other day when one of the 9 y/o’s I coach on the devo team mentioned it!
    I also apparently missed Dantheman’s post #140, too.

    Hear me out here. He died in the hypersonic crash. The rest of the movie was Maverick's afterlife, his soul's quest to find peace. It fixes everything that appears to be wrong with the plot when viewed literally.
