I hated it. Aside from the flying video I thought the plot was out of an 80’s Chick Norris film or something. Especially the end.


The original was 10x better.

I know lots of guys in the Army that were over 30 years and only O-6 (Colonel in the Army, Captain in the Navy). Making flag rank (general/admiral) is all politics. Some guys didn't want to be generals (for very good reasons) and took jobs that ensured they wouldn't move up.

Movie was awesome. My 15 year old and wife were hoping for a volleyball scene, so when the beach football scene came on, they cheered. Proud papa moment for sure.

I was mildly disappointed that there were no windmill high fives during the beach football scene though.

I think the point of Maverick being an O6 instead of a 2 or 3-star is that he went for the fightertown life instead of gettin' with the Program and shuckin' and jivin' for the Man like the rest of the corporate sellout pricks in his year class.

Hadn't been to a theater in probably 3 years, but fixed that with a top gun viewing today.

It was awesome. Great demonstration of the fact that real airplanes look awesome, and cgi ones look so-so. Which is also why the 3rd act was somewhat less awesome - too much computerized action. That, and the whole premise of an unprovoked attack on a nebulous enemy with 5th gen planes was kind of goofy.

But yeah, silly plot and a bit of cgi were easily overlooked because of all the ass kicking and name taking.

I know a two guys from high school that both wear one star. One army and one navy. Navy guy was cool, pilot. The army guy wore aviators in high school and rocked the 5.0 mustang. I can totally see him being general material.

Finally saw it. It delivers exactly what was promised. Loud, unapologetic action and military porn.

And for those saying OG Top Gun was far better, I watched that earlier this month. Take off the nostalgia glasses, they're equally good movies for the pure action fun and enough romance and muscly dude sweat to keep the ladies interested. Add in the fact that the cockpit filming was real life maneuvers and Tom Cruise getting squished by 5 g's made it all far better.

The entire story of the sequel's "attack the important enemy base" was copied straight from Star Wars.

Am I the only one who thinks the story would be better if Maverick had died instead of ejecting and getting rescued? I think it completes the story arc better, and that part with the F 14 was a little too hokey IMO. The way it works out I don’t think he actually learns any lessons.

It feels like a common thing in action movies right now and I don’t like it.

Finally watched it tonight. Great action and the dedication by the actors to put themselves into those real life cockpits was impressive. It really was a fun movie

I thought it was pretty shit overall. The flying was........neat but overall the plot was hammered dogsit. Operating F14.......and then a STOL. Come the fuck on.

The rank thing was funny, but I guess thats the way they played it since the highest you can go in the AF before they yank your flight time and give you a command is O5? I imagine the Navy is probably the same?
