They closed many of the local sorting lines and have the mail and packages all go to a regional sorting location. Adds days but they claim it is saving them money. If it was UPS or FedEx they would do similar of sticking it in a truck off to the sorting location for your area and then back, even if it was 10 minutes away, that is the model they are using.

The regional sorting facility for CO and WY is in Denver.

We ordered some checks for our kid when he was in college, with a joint account. They showed up 6 months later.

Give your mailman a good gift this Xmas. They’re getting worked to the bone and deserve a boost.

A quick review of USPS rules say that even when working a Sunday with the night increase would only get an employee to 183% of normal hourly rates. I’m sure those employees are just happy as a clam working those hours for 183% on a Sunday or 158% any other day (after hours after 8). Doesn’t seem like the employees are the big winners here.

All depends on when the person was hired as to what the terms are. I believe a few years ago they basically started a 2nd (lower) tier of pay and benefits package for all new hires moving forward. Did not bust the Union, but do not know all the details of the new pay caps, etc. (But neufox seems to have found the capped rate.)

As you should. And all of us small business owners greatly appreciate it. But that in no way means USPS. Our business ships anywhere from 5-25 boxes a day, we have daily ups pickup. It’s simple and reliable. The tracking is almost always spot on and customers are happy. There’s absolutely no reason for a small business owner to rely on usps

Another "Priority Mail" package from a Colorado mag finally tracked after 10 days ago after getting dropped off at a CO postal office. So sounds like packages from CO are in fact now at least some of the time getting processed in NV and not in Denver as you state...

Dec 26 2:19 PM Las Vegas Nv Distribution Center Arrived at USPS regional facility
Dec 16 12:00 AM Pre-Shipment info sent to USPS, USPS awaiting item

No big deal for this package to hang out in Vegas partying it up, but mag stated they dropped a Christmas present off to go to a relative at the time and it also spent the same 10 days MIA.

Yo, I hear that. I've been filing for refunds on priority packages that did just that - said 2-3 days, took 2-3 weeks.

Can't help but go postal here...and political. My daughter carries the mail so I get some insights. When Trump appointed his pal (read:contributor) to serve as postmaster general, the first thing that cunt did was cut the third shifts at the biggest mail processing plants in the country. Intent? To fuck up mail-in balloting so Republicans could sue to get votes thrown out.
Sixty baseless lawsuits that were thrown out later, the post office is still totally fucked up. Guess it's Trump's revenge for not letting him steal the election.

Anyone have any luck getting packages out of "pre-shipment" purgatory? Have skis and bindings presumably sitting in two different post offices (Napa, CA and Longmont, CO), which have had a status like this for a bunch of days:

was at the gong show today watched people get into a shouting match over parking spots which is normal everyday the sad part it was some dip shit dude bro yelling at some chick what a man

inside was awesome while waiting to pick up watched some local yokal who grew up here with her ten kids in tow not read any or obey any signage and finally got repremanded by the postal employee which was funny then some WFH refugee was all bent because he couldn't find his package that was going to arrive today, pro tip brah add two days to that estiamted arrival date it got even better as another new arrival was at the counter losing her shit over a missing package she was all bent cause she wouldn't get her refund until it arrived back at the place she bought it from (pro tip that usally takes an additional two weeks) and couldn't understand how it got sent back like this lady was going to be SOL because she didn't get her fifty or four hundred buck refund unlike the local chicha and her ten kids whose husbands parents pay most of the way so she don't have to work but could use the fifty bucks to buy some new dynafit bindings to go with the fifteen other pairs of skis she has pro tip put your home address and po box on the shipping order meanwhile lesile was sweet to me handed my 200 dollar fan for my #vanlife

    snip

I've tried putting the PO Box and/or street address in the 2nd address line, but invariably the post office will shelve my package, or FedEx/UPS mark undeliverable if the address they'll deliver to isn't filled out as address 1. Apparently computers and carriers can't read address 2, to spite my postmaster's insistence that indicating my PO Box in address line 2 will solve all my problems.

    snip

Since we have no home delivery either what works at our PO is using the street address of the PO in the first line and in the 2nd line Unit and then your PO Box number. For example "Unit 4000" for PO Box 4000. The address of the PO has it's own + 4 number as well which is filled automatically on most order forms.

It's a pain picking up packages at the PO but it works no matter how it's shipped. Then change your cc address to same so you don't have 2 addresses on the same order form.

I'd call the shipper(s) and find out if the goods actually left the building. Sometimes the packages miss their origin scan and are updated during the trip.

Need a cheap vacation traveling around the USA, put yourself in a USPS package. Order placed and dropped off and shipped Jan 4 from a Georgia Post Office... Headed to PA... Second scan in California on the 7th. Sits there for 2 days before moving along again. Ends up back in Cleveland, OH again 2 days later. Sits in Cleveland for 5 days and moves to Akron, OH...

So it can travel across country in 2 days but not under a hundred miles while hanging out in Ohio Distribution Centers.

Original estimated delivery was 1/8 or 11th...

Had a package shipped from VT to MT on December 26, sent with the signature requirement waived because I'm never around to sign for packages. Zero updates to tracking until January 7 when it's in Denver, then no more updates until "Out for delivery" on January 20. That's fine, took longer than expected but they're swamped and understaffed.

Got home expecting to find it, but nope: pink slip on the door saying that I need to schedule a redelivery because it requires a signature. Huh? Okay, set up redelivery online for January 22 including a message that the carrier will see with the redelivery, sign the slip, make sure everything is in place for it to go smoothly.

Get home that evening to find a note from the carrier saying she doesn't feel comfortable leaving the package (WTF?) and that I'll have to go pick it up. Neither the pink slip nor the note from the carrier say *where* to pick it up. Mind you this was sent with the signature requirement waived. I don't live in the hood and I don't particularly care how comfortable the carrier is: it's her job to leave packages on my porch.

Took a gamble on January 23 to go to the only open PO in town. Clerk at the counter is in the back for 10 minutes, comes back empty handed and says he'll grab a supervisor. Supervisor comes out, I explain the absurd situation, he tells me that package is out for delivery. I showed him the note from the carrier, yanks the pink slip from me, and shuts a door in my face. Comes back a few minutes later with the package and states that it was obviously never out for delivery. I inquire as to how it could have possibly never been out for delivery when, drum roll, the carrier stated she tried to deliver it and that's in writing - never mind the fact that he just tried to tell me that it was out for delivery and I was wasting his and my time.

"It says "DO NOT LAY FLAT" right there, that means it can't go on a truck, the carrier never had this."
"Okay, I'm confused. How did it get here then? How was I supposed to know where to pick it up? There's no address listed anywhere."
"This is the only place deliveries go out of"
"Again, how am I supposed to know that?"

This turned into a fairly shitty back-and-forth culminating with me asking: "are you the postmaster?" "no, I'm a supervisor" "so you're not the postmaster and you're not actually in charge?" "I'm a supervisor". I explained that I'd be filing a complaint against him and the carrier and he'll hear about it from his boss. This prompted the sniveling bastard to decide he needed to take pictures of the package. Like, okay dude, take as many as you want but the problem isn't the package, it's the way you've just acted for 10 minutes while essentially calling me an idiot, lying to me, and literally closing doors in my face.

Until now I was giving the USPS a whole lotta leeway. My old man worked for them for 30 years and I've had a soft spot for the organization despite their myriad foibles. It's one thing if the system is crumbling and run by an asshole who's actively trying to dismantle it, but it's another thing entirely for the customer-facing employees to be complete and utter pricks when something is obviously wrong. Just because your boss' boss' boss' boss' boss is an asshole doesn't mean that you need to be one.

Moral of the story: I'm shipping with somebody else from now on.
People here are typically assholes (it's part of the charm) - dan_pdx

Heh. USPS just returned a undeliverable xmas card on Saturday 1/23.

The address we sent it to was ~200 miles away, sent on 12/15. 5 weeks for a somewhat local 'return to sender' I get that it's low priority, but damn that's slow.
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

There's a mountain range in the way. Tough on the horses.
The Pony Express went from St Jo MO to Sacramento in 10 days, over a much bigger mountain range. It did set a precedent for the USPS by going bankrupt.

Here's mine, which I forgot about it's been so long.

Ordered some stamps through usps.com, sent to a family member.

    Order placed 01-Dec-2020
    Shipped 03-Dec-2020
    Arrived today, 05-Feb-2021.

Origin was Kansas City, MO. Destination suburbs of Philly.

It wasn't even a package, two 20-packs of forever stamps.

I actually will give them credit for a few items of "fun" mail- packages with ski or cycling gear in them in the last week. One was scheduled for 2/9 or 10 according to the shipper. CA to East Coast and actually came in earlier than the estimate- 3 days Priority Mail as best as I can figure based on the drop off day. The other was a package from Seattle to East coast. Again shipment was a day early if you go by the 2-3 day estimate and actually 2 days Priority Mail...
