The Tincup pours at the picnic table were pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. What a miser. 1/10 stars, would not frequent that table.

He sure deserved it. Lugs a drone plus heavy camera all that way and back.

Better to save the heavy pours for after the cameras stop rolling.

I just like that here, the talk is centered around controversial whiskey pours. On YouTube it's people all pissed off that I dare mention things like these lines changing and glacier receding. It sure brings out the mouth breathers who believe alternative theories are smarter because they're alternative. They're like the Hipsters of intellectualism.

Blows my mind that these people would even watch The Fifty.

    We have high standards here.

You've been around the internet for long enough that I'm sure you know exactly how much value to place in YouTube comments.

More importantly - Is the playlist in the earbuds the same as the playlist in the video?

I can see bopping along to 80's inspired instrumental while on a long approach - but 17 hours may drive a fella to drink.

    ... oh wait.

Pretty sure he mentioned somewhere earlier in the thread that he exclusively listens to Europe.

I'm actually legitimately curious about this. On a slog that long is it purely music, or are there some podcasts / talk programs thrown in there?

And how much time are you listening to nature vs something else being pumped into the ear?

Only on very long slogs with little hazard do I pop in one earbud (never two)...well, often on training tours, runs, rides, etc. too. Most of the time it is downloaded podcasts. But when I need some energy, the music comes on.

Cody - loved the new releases all season.

One thing I was wondering - do you run your GFTs often outside of specific applications? Shorter more aggressive tours? General winter tours? Everything?

Agree, the Fifty is fun as fuck. I was referring to climate denying YouTube commenters, not whiskey snobs. When one has to ask for a double, the pours are weak.

A bit late for all the Combatant discussion, but in case anyone is interested in a short TR on climbing Waddington from the ocean, here's a fun writeup from Caroline Van Hemert in the 2005 AAJ: http://publications.americanalpinecl...es/12200521700

Cody - Q for u: What do you do to stay in shape for these massive days? Were you naturally gifted with a Secretariat-sized cardiovascular system, or is there a whole lotta pumping ze iron happening in between episodes?

Not to speak for Cody, but he's mentioned before that this is all he needs to stay fit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWtcE52LKgk

I’m confused about the 40-50lb pack for a single overnight. Glacier gear? Camera gear?

I thought of the one day push the whole time. Cooking wear, tent, bag, sleeping pad, bigger pack, 2 x food +, adds up. One day pack must be 25+ with rope and glacier gear. Our older tent and older bag i was 55lb. Click image for larger version.

In that case, I guess I'll just keep up my usual regimen!

Idk. For a single night, you can really trim it down, Joe Simpson style. Or mark twit/koch/et al Alaska range style: go all night and day and night and day again. Not a luxury tour…. I mean, it wasn’t necessary, but made me wonder.
