I do not miss the crowds, narrow runs, constant ice, "powder day" with three inches of snow that gets scraped off in a matter of 1 hour, annoying east coast snobs, New England snobs, New Jersey bros, Long Islanders at Hunter Mountain, more ice at Whiteface Mountain, Vermont hippy bros, Greek Peak (enough said), hippies that only talk about how they ski at Mad River, Ski the East stickers on everything, subzero temps, even colder subzero temps when you factor in 30mph windchills, super tight glades where you constantly have to watch out for ice patch plus random death mogul causing tree impalement, Tom Brady Uggs, moguls in general that are 99% scraped off ice, get bored with steep ice run -> go to terrain park and feel impending death on ice block jump, people who take a trip out west then can't stop talking about the "epic" conditions out west, people who take ski trips out west or euro in general, east coast bro shred talk lingo, making fun of gapers for 70mm wide 2x4 race skis -> then getting older yourself and realizing that really 1970s long narrow stiff race skis are pretty much the only ski that actually makes sense for the Northeast.

Then top all that off with a $100 lift ticket!
    You're making the right choice.

I feel your pain. Fuck, I don't even work, and I'm not skiing today or probably this week, again. Another rain, sleet event followed by, I'm pretty sure, lift closing winds today followed by Sub zero for two or three days. Fuck that shit already. I don't even consider Saturdays, but maybe Sunday afternoon. This is the fourth fucking rain/freeze event this season. Not worth the drive, but fuck if I'm going to live up there with those hippies and junkies. The Catskills can be fun with a foot on a few hills, but when's the last time that happened? God damn the 1% for driving up real estate beyond my means at the bottom of any decent hill out west.

I'm thinking of moving south near a good airport and just flying to real mountains. And no, not Europe, which is much further than somebody above thinks. My flight and transport over there in a few weeks is essentially an all day (night) affair with jet lag as a bonus. Newark has an early flight to SLC that can get you on the slopes by the afternoon.

Sleep on the plane. Stay up and ski that first day. Don’t sleep till it gets dark...... no jet lag that way.

Europe > western skiing every time.... cheaper too.

Not if you have an Epic or Ikon pass.

And, if you're arguing snow quality, I've been told more than once that Utah is the best in the world.

I just looked at this thread. I had no idea it was so fucked. Serious vibes to all you guys that are there. Benny, if you can make the move to the Southwest CO, it may price out for you?

Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

One less AH in the lift lines. . ! SKI THE EAST !

    Bye
I've spent most of my life skiing and fly fishing. The rest I have just wasted.

I, for one, am very thankful that so many people don't mind/like skiing the East. GET AFTER IT, you badasses!

I don't even take them out of storage until the drive west.

God help me for agreeing with Benny. Left 8 pm Thursday night direct to SLC on american. Skied all day first chair to last chair at Deer Valley, Friday, Saturday and Sunday until 1pm. Direct flight on Delta back home. In bed at 11:30 pm with a load of laundry already in. Back in office at 8 am. I don't normally ski deer valley but a few points. 1)the wife wanted to go 2)at $169 a day, my solitude now Ikon pass is paid for in full just with Deer Valley this weekend, let alone my other 15 days or so I already skied. 3) One day of PTO and the kids were already off on Friday is a good tradeoff off for 2.5 days of skiing.
Is it ideal for what I want. Not really. I want to live in a mansion mid mountain at Alta and ski 100 days a season and still make the money I make. However, I live in NC with a high quality of life locally and you couldn't pay me to fly to Vermont to ski, nor would I ever make the 5.5 hour drive to snowshoe either. Sugar & Beech charge same as walk up at Solitude.

Yeah, there's a reason it's cheap. Edward Abbey agrees. I'd take Vermont over that.

I kind of guessed that may be the case, hence why I suggested Ogden. I could live there to ski in the winter and then travel in the summer, but that's just me.

Really, if flying out west is something you already do, flying east is not any more difficult. Especially if you’re starting from the east coast already.

I'm agreeing with an mjong, but shut up now, there's no snow in Europe, they all dress like fags and will force you to wear a SCARF!
