    Philly restaraunts?

Short stay coming up. Wanted to go to Zahav again, but he's up in the ether of celebrity chefs now, and hard to get a table. Anything else?

One school of thought for Philly for finding good cheesesteak restaurants on the mainline: drive around looking for the greasiest vent hoods on the outside of the buildings. Never fails there. Recommend.

Depends on what you're looking for...Philly is a big city; just like all big cities: it has everything. Apparently, Fishtown is the "it" spot, but I rarely go to Philly.

    In downtown, I always go to The Dandelion...but I'm a drinker. <shrug>
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

Plus the premature death by heart attack means you don’t need as much retirement savings.

Believe it or not the cooler areas are no. liberties (actually more like fish town) for hip restaurants. North of girard. There are fantastic Ethiopian places in the UPenn area.

Dalessandros is off Henry ave and was fantastic.

    Cochon is closed. Damn [emoji22]

As you noted, unless you have connections in the Knesset you aren’t gonna get into Zahav.

I can ask around if you’re really out of options.

It’s been 5 yrs. since I’ve moved so my info is pretty outdated.

Zahav is not difficult to get into without a reservation if you don’t mind eating early. I showed up at 5 in August (weekday) with the two friends I was staying with and I think we waited 10 or 15 minutes before we were seated.

I kept it pretty casual other than that. Goldie (from Solomonov too) has insanely good falafel and tahini shakes for a fast casual lunch. I’d eat that nearly every week if it was near me.

South Philly Barbacoa was great too.

The Tired Hands empire is a trek from the city but has some of the best beer in the country, and pretty good food too.

People talk in hushed tones about Beddia but I don’t know if he’s reopened/figured out how to be famous yet. He wasn’t when I was there last.

Vedge and V Street are supposed to be essential regardless if you eat meat or not. I still haven’t made it though since I’m not often back.

There’s so much good new food in Philly since I left 10 years ago, and there was plenty before. My old housemate and his wife live in Fishtown near Kensington and the development there since I left is mind-blowing, but there’s good food pretty much everywhere.

Dandelion looks good. Zahav seems to be impossible.

IDK, walking into Zahav was so much easier than getting into hyped SF restaurants. Multiple friends in Philly have been doing it that way (5pm walk-in) for years.

Maybe my perspective is warped from living here though.

Now getting into Bad Saint in DC without paying a taskrabbit; that was some fucking commitment.

I went to a few of the Tired Hands spots and they are good. Reading Terminal Market has some awesome spots for sandwiches and such. Pat's sucks and so does the one across the street but you should go there.

Note: if you did go to the Cafe, they don't serve meals downstairs...only small plate apps. And the upstairs is small and gets crowded. If you went there to eat, you should go to the Fermentaria...they're only a couple blocks apart anyways.

Yeah, we went to both. Took the train from Reading Terminal out to Ardmore and almost missed the last train back. Had a Taco beer, it was cinco de Mayo. Also just about every other beer on the menu. Milkshake IPA, etc. Had apps at the small one then a bigger dinner at the Fermentaria.

I don’t remember very much, just buying the wrong girl a drink, and then the bouncers throwing me head first into snow bank out back.

Hmmm. Ok at least we aren’t some multiple personality. That’s good.

Apparently I bet a bunch of my friends $20 per that I could sit down with this random hot girl I could eat her Irish stew. Everything was going great until 2 bouncers show up.

Who the fucks are you are exchanged and apparently she’s the owners girl.

Then I get thrown out without so much as a nice try pal. I couldn’t go back there for years. To the point that I’d forgotten after several years and I still got shut down on my way in. That was hard to explain to the girl I was with at the time.
