I live in what most would consider the most expensive area of NH, yet, even here, you can buy a house for sub 200k within a 30 minute drive. Minimum wage is also basically 20 bucks an hour for McDonalds, or 25+ for anything above that. Yet those jobs remain unfilled and there are vagrants all over every motel parking lot just across the river in Vermont and everyone talks big game about fixing problems yet the problems only get worse.

Maybe homelessness isn't a choice for some but get the fuck outta here it isn't a choice for most. Drug addicts that can't hold a job made a bed for themselves. I'm ok with helping them out of it but at a certain point the onus is on them to stay clean and not be a burden on society.

Wut? Even the highest estimates ive seen put homelessness (regardless of age) in america at less than 1 million (quite a bit less). Or do you mean cumulatively over the years? Regardless, these kids are innocent and usually victims of some cycle of abuse (DV, drugs, poor financial decisions, etc). Id prioritize kids over adults, but that would involve removing kids from their parents and the foster system is as (or more) fucked than their parents usually.

Anyways, i think its obvious that Fred is close to one or more homeless folks and has suffered trying to help them. His fresh anger and biterness is reminiscent of someone who has similarly strong negative feelings toward drug addicts or victims of suicide. The anger phase can last a while.

Yeah, that is, IMO an extremely loose definition of homeless which resulted in a number 20x higher than the official counts (which are notorious undercounts, but not by 20x). Regardless it corresponds to the number of kids with shelter insecurity which in itself is not good and something to be addressed.

At $20/hour and using 30% of take home for housing that leaves under $1,000 month for rent or mortgage/taxes. I checked Zillow for the greater Manchester, NH area and saw 1 (one) listed at or below this and honestly it looked like a scam. This also assumed that the person has not previously been evicted (how did they become homeless), can put up first/last months rent up front, and pass the credit check.

Your assumptions don’t pass the sniff test.
