In my lifetime I've had a shepherd, collie, cockaterr, toy poodle, coon hound, and a pit bull. Hands down the smaller dogs were smarter. Bigger dogs were a little more cuddly but not much. Bigger dogs are better watch dogs, smaller dogs are good alarm systems.

My parents raised and showed Old English Sheepdogs; we had as many as 8 of them in the house. They were beautiful creatures and I loved them; for sure, I'd own one if upkeep wasn't such a PIA. They certainly weren't the sharpest, but they were instinctual; my parents had old 8mm films of them herding us kids.

Somehow, we ended up with a Border Terrier...that dog was ugly...but was smartest goddamn dog I've ever met.

We also had a Shih Tzu b/c my dad wanted one...I don't know if that dog was smart or dumb...b/c it didn't give a shit what you thought anyways.

I now have Grumbles...an American Bulldog. He's not so smart...but he's sweet, loyal, lovable, and always happy to see me...best dog I've ever owned.

It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

How a society treats its animals is usually a good indicator of how advanced that society is. Take England for example. Dogs in pubs, dogs on trains, the pinnacle of civilization.

This was taken about 5 years ago not long after we got the rescue pit. She now has taken her rightful place in whichever kids' bed she chooses on any particular night. Didn't initially want to allow the dog in people beds but the kids pretty much just kept breaking that rule so now they are stuck with her hahaha!

And, we have a doggie door for her. NOBODY hops our fence to take garden tools anymore. Used to happen fairly often before we got dogs, hound before this pit also did a great job keeping crooks away.. I will say this is the STRONGEST dog I've ever had and her jaws can crush anything. Cinder block head will knock you silly if you bend down while she's bouncing around too happy to see you. I can totally see why people are afraid of these dogs and why a mean one is absolutely beyond dangerous. Kinda like a gun. In the wrong hands with bad motives a HUGE problem for everyone else..

English pubs were ruined when they let young kids in though.

I love how it's unhealthy to have a dog near food, but every single day of my life I cook food with my dog at my feet, and eat food with my dog in my lap. Good thing the gov has that menace under control.
this took place this morning, thankfully I escaped with my life
