N1CK what's your take on your new RX against some of the HL skis?

I own the FR and R both of which I really like. The RX is more traditional as it does have some camber, but floats and carves and pivots like a dream (in my opinion) The RX flex is a 4 on the Praxis scale and it's perfect. The R99 is incredibly capable, but it's a reverse camber ski and there are a few times when that has been apparent. I skied it in shitty conditions last week where I'm sure the RX would have got the nod for versatility. (I'm fortunate to be able to have a bunch of rad skis in the quiver, these plus a GPO which is and will remain one my favorite skis ever.) Those skis are really in the same use case IMO. Playful, still rail, super pivoty. The R gets the edge on playful, the RX on 'still rails', but you can't have a bad day on either one. I'm hoping we get a TON of snow yet this year so I can get the FR back out. Those are definitely more pow day only skis, but they're also really, really fun.

Any Praxis fans who are lucky to ski soft snow / pow regularly but want to limit to a one or two ski quiver should have the RX on their radar.

Appreciate your take N1CK, I have been ho-humming for softish 110 ski. I have Qs for Pow. And if money were no object I would pull the trigger on a custom skinny Q, but with the exchange rate, and customs its super prohibitive. So I am back and forth between an MVP and the HL AM110. I have been a couple seasons on the Corvus, and really appreciate what reverse offers, but on a more mixed conditions ski i want a bit of camber to help with suspension and impact.

On paper the rocker profile, taper profiles are nearly identical between the MVP and AM 110. I don't think I could wrong with either, but curious if you could comment on the differences in ski feel between the different core and construction materials between the brands On paper a 180 AM 110 is about 200g per skis heavier than a 183 MVP. Is the extra heft of the HLs noticeable later in the day.
    Thanks

Yes. (I have the R110's and MVP's). The HL's are noticeably heavier and damper, which comes with all the expected upsides and downsides.

I haven't been on the AM110, but Marshal calls it an 8/10 flex, which is the same as the R110. The R110 is notch stiffer than the MVP, both in hand flexing and in how they ski. Similar flex underfoot, but the MVP softens up a bunch at the tip and tail, which is part off what makes it easy to smear around.

The R110 feels like a more game on, charge hard kind of ski that is rewarding when you push it, without being overly difficult when you're not pushing it. The MVP feels like an easier ski that will charge if you ask it to, but that's not it's bread and butter. I would assume that the AM110 will be closer to the R110 than the MVP in that regard.

I meant the R110 not R99. What now edit doesn’t work either?

Thanks N1CK. I just picked up a pair of RX having previously owned the FR. Think the former will definitely be a more versatile, all conditions ripper versus the FR, which is for sure more soft snow biased. I'm a small guy so am thinking the 200g+ lighter weight of the RX will be easier on the body also!

Yep, the new profile in 179 length which is super dialed (it's essentially flat bases with a tiny amount of camber which is exactly what I wanted). Keith was kind enough to slip my custom order into a limited production run and so gave me the stock price instead of the custom price. I totally lucked out here, but he is also the man!

Never been on a HL ski but part of that is due to how happy I already am with the OG 187 MVP. I’ve got a pair of OG 187 Hojis for heavy snow, wind crust and rock ski duties. MVPs get taken out a lot more and get taken on western trips.

If I were still a pass holder at Palisades I would surely have a pair of either FRs or R110s in the mix for messing around in denser snow. But for now I’m really happy to have a little camber and the MVPs have most of the feel I like out of a reverse camber ski.

ETA the Piste Jib and MVP complement each other which is helpful since I don’t get to ski nearly as much as I want to. Currently I have two pairs of PJs and at one point I had 187 and 193 MVPs too.

    Any
    Maggots on the Sluggers?

I’ve really enjoyed them for lower tide and they are very versatile

Granted short turn radius and all that

Just trying it out now. Way turny. Glad I put demos on ‘em. Much happier about 1 - 1 1/2 cm back from the line. I like ‘em.

    Protest

Any guess on the age of the Protests? Seller says they are a couple years old with minor use.
I don't recall seeing newer Praxi with a plain black bases? Not a big deal as I don't think they have changed much.
Would just like to know what I'm getting if I pull the trigger.

Pictures aren't working for me on the forums at the moment, but I've bought brand new from Keith 2 years in a row and the bases have been plain black.

Pics are a challenge on here.

Interesting. I bought a pair of GPO JRs for my son this year and they have Praxis logo on the bases.
Maybe they do both plain and logo bases.

Keith has done a variety of die cut letters, graphics, and plain black bases over the years, particularly for custom order skis. Not really a good indicator of age

    Thanks for the info.
I made a deal to get them.
Also found a smoking deal on some mint GPO 187s.

    It's raining Praxis over here.

These showed up, in nice shape as advertised. Still not sure what' they are. Dimensions are correct for the Protest but these are full rocker. Maybe a custom lay up? Or, an older version? IDK, either way they look fun. Planning to mount with Attack Demos. That will let me mess with the mounting point, and I've got a couple buddies that want to try them. Edit - Nothing seems to be working to post pics. Try these links. https://i.imgur.com/eu4MJmT.jpg https://i.imgur.com/TMEhBqk.jpg https://i.imgur.com/bBP6ScP.jpg

Nah, to skinny. These measure about 130 in the center, plus they have a bit of sidecut.I heard back from Keith. Based on the straight pull length he thinks they are the newer 187 version. Full rocker would make them a custom. Not exactly what I was looking for but they should be fun to try out. Will have them mounted this week. Hopefully the snow cooperates to get them out soon after.

Those aren’t gonna work out for you at all, prolly shouldn’t even try, death or dismemberment will ensue. Send them to me for proper disposal.
