I could certainly be wrong but this was also info I was told 13 or 14 years ago. The shop I was speaking of did have a huge amount of Trek branded gear.

Didn't realize she was breaking the rules until she was past me, so couldn't call her out for being a dumbass. Didn't look like she was having fun, though, so maybe she learned a lesson.
I know I'll be watching the local Craigslist for when the rich folk find out that it's not like hopping in a golf cart and they still have to work, so they dump their eBike for 50% off.
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

Near the top of Mueller park climb about 2k into 2300 im pretty gassed and we get passed by an older guy on a giant ebike. We hang behind him for the rest of the climb and chat at the turnaround. He was old as hell. I think 75. Road rider that hadnt mtbd in years. Demod it from the local shop. He was super stoked and was going to buy it. We were about two post ride beers in at the car when he came out the trail into the lot. He is still gonna be a beater on the downhill even on a moped.

Mehhhhh Im not too worked up about it and think one would be a hoot on the moto singletrack in AF canyon

While I certainly won't criticize any 75 y.o.'s downhill speed, it's worth noting that the trail in question drops 2.3k in 7 miles and is mostly smooth as a baby's butt.

It's irrelevant how smooth it is. He's 75 years old! Shit, probably close to half the men in the US are dead by then. Half the kooks in here (like me) will probably be broken and barely able to walk without bionic parts. I bet he enjoyed the ride by stopping and taking it in. Completely different mind set than the bro brah mentalitly.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Gotta agree. Breaking bones when beyond 60 is not the easy peasy shit to recover from that it was at 40. "Who the fuck is going gnarbro at 75?" said no Juan ever.

Just picked up a couple Joulburn pedal assist bikes post bm and they fucking rock.

A 75 year old doing a big ride, ebike or not, is super impressive. I can only hope that I'm still riding at 75, and I'd be pretty happy to survive the ride, much less rally it.

That said, just because he's old doesn't mean he's not a beater. It just means it's acceptable.

I'm not sure what bm is, but I take it to mean that you took a big shit and bought 2 folding bikes. Which is awesome.

Cheezus judgment much. Im stoked for the guy. Im glad he let us in front on the down and I hope to see him at 80 passing me on the climb. I imagine I will smoke most of the average ebike riders on the down just on demographic of the ones Ive run into and my overwhelming skill and bravado lol. Im pretty indifferent on ebikes and give two shits until I see evidence of trails being threatened by their existance or their price comes down to something I can afford then I will need to give it consideration lol...

Yalls lycra may be too tight. Lighten up and ride your bike (or offroad moped) and have some fucking fun

I think most in this thread have made it clear that our only issue with them is the potential access threat. Otherwise do your thing and a 75 year old getting out there on one sounds awesome.

At around 70, you are not as good as you once were, even once, and any hard fall is likely career ending. Putting caution ahead of adrenaline rush and being happy to go out for the views and smells is the game plan. There are threads here about old dudes jumping back on the horse that end with medical updates.

It depends on how strong you are
I'm around there, had a bone density test and I'm one standard deviation higher than a 22 year old male.

But I always had strong bones, and I left heavy.

Cool. Call me a pussy about getting hurt and you'd be spot on Ligiments and tissue healing slows down
Let me know how well you bounce. You're not going fast if you don't ever fall was the word back in the day.

edit to say that older guy was on a loaner so not seat time. Falling on the uphill is not so bad. He was using his head IMO.

Consistency is key. If you’re out riding 4-5 days a week you find your skill level and stay with in it. It always seems time off the bike with an injury can lead to another injury when you get back on it . I’d think the travel will help that guy stay safe and the e part will help with consistency.
Occasionally I may do ski laps with. People in that age range but I only ride with one person that age. It’s been a couple years but at 75 he was able to walk away from us on the climbs and keep up pretty well on the downs. Can ride a dbl black jump trail at silver star and never crashes. 300+ days/year.
I like that story . Major props to the guy for finding a way to get out there at 75 and even consider trying that fs giant e bike. Everyone’s different. It suck to start bitching someone out for riding an ebike then discover, despite his youth or seemingly healthy appearance, only discover he has some serious ailment and the freedom machine has change his life(basically the same experience we felt when they invented mtb’s)

The first motorcycle I MX'd had 4" in front and 3" in the rear. I think I get it. Still have my eye on this ride fat tired for float and suspension. Local support. Good for a hike in the woods or long logging road.

Do bike ebike stores run like a car dealership? Do they finance bikes and whatnot? I might not wait till I’m 63 to get one. I kinda want one now.

^^never been in an e bike store. Haven’t even seen an e mt bike in person but I see more and more bike shops offering financing through finance corps.

Watching the recent bike show coverage , there’s so many different segments that I never considered. I see one company catering to the gun fags. They’re going crazy for them. Fat tires front suspension , gun racks, yuuge trailer attachments to carry gear or your kill out the Bush. It’d be funny if they made a ted nugent signature model and all the gun fags where snapping them up like hot cakes. The Nuge gun fag lobby/mt bike trail advocate extraordinaire

Yeah, that’s the ticket, right there. I live at the crest of a Cat 4 climb. Shortish and Steep, no way I’m going down that hill on my bike to the store when I run out of olive oil. E-rig would change that in a heartbeat. I love being on a bicycle. I feel way more connected, to everything when I’m on a bike. As much as I like skiing, I like bikes 10x more.
