Running an iPhone or any computer thingy on a bar is a recipe for disaster with me. I crash way too often. My commuter has one (haven't crashed that yet) but I find I never look at the thing anyway.

Nice spec too, with the ep801 and the bigger battery. Mine has those wheels and theyve been impressive , now on their 6th year. Not really anything i'd change. Maybe the brakes? Mine came with code r brakes and i swapped those for my old saints. I think my saints must be 10 or 12 yrs old now. Im not a sram brake guy at all but some people like them.
Crazy that that bike is 5200cad and has better parts, suspension, and much better motor/battery than my 2019 decoy mx and i paid 7400cad in '19

@xxx-er if you install Bosch Flow app on your phone you can check exact battery % and change what modes are assigned to each color setting. There's a Kiox 400C display they just announced that dealer can install in the top tube to give you an LCD display again, no word when but probably July. At the same time they'll release an optional software update that bumps max power to 100nm, but I'm not going to use it because 85 is plenty and more will just drain the battery faster. I really like the dynamic modes (eMTB - purple by default, & tour+ - blue by default) because they scale power output based on rider power and some other sensor stuff. Emtb mode is the best single mode I've used on any ebike motor because it scales so well. You can pedal slow without much effort and it won't give a lot of assist - good for riding with non-e riders or SL bikes, or crank hard up steep hills and it will automatically add power. It's never jerky or bursty. Turbo (red) is still great for carrying a bag full of tools though. The bike part of the Vala is damn good too, rides like a SC but the rear end devours chunk better. And I can slam a 200mm dropper in my size medium with room to spare. Totally agreed that the Bullit's travel is overkill for the vast majority of riders & terrain, Vala's plenty and more lively.

yeah the Vala is fairly new so I just havent got around to it I just ride in boost about 110 % of the time and call er good but i think the Bosh might actualy be better to ride in something besides boost than the Bullit was, the power for the lower speed grinding is definatley better than the EP8.

SO the way I read it that 100NM is just a bump for short periods time ? The guy who put my Vala together is pretty much the fastest rider in town and is also on a Vala so I will be up on shit for sure

    Electric Bike Thread

So I’m thinking about getting a e bike. Yt decoy mx core FOUR. Spec looks awesome, and price is right. I’m five ten and currently rode a stumpy evo sFOUR and rocky element L. Can’t decide if I should size up to an XL decoy. Reach on the XL is similar to my stumpy. But I’m worried the XL will be just too much of a plow bike. However I also worry that the L will fell to cramped. Anyone who owns a decoy have some advice?

If i had to do it again id size up. They are sized atleast one size down. By current standards a little more than one size down

Yeah, the Decoy (not to be confused with new Decoy SN with Fazua motor) has older geometry that is a full size shorter by modern standards. The head angle is fairly conservative by today (~65) and rear is pretty short, so it shouldn't feel like a barge descending. The one place you'll feel it is sitting down, where the effective top tube will be long, so slam that saddle all the way forward on the rails. My brother bought a used Decoy in XL at 6'-2" and was worried it would feel big, since his last MTB was like a 2012, but said it feels great and actually looks a bit small on him. Re: Bosch 100nm - that's max torque, and won't have a time limit on it. If you satisfy the requirements to hit max assistance in whatever mode you're running, it'll give you 100nm sustained. From what I saw on announcement media, it looks like you can actually bump that limit up on, say, Turbo, but leave the 85nm limit on eMTB.

^^yes. I also have my fork at 180 and installed a -1? works components headset that together slacken the headtube to 63.6?. It also shortens reach and toptube by 4-5mm

Besides wishing you had sized up. What else have you liked or disliked about owning a decoy?

The frame and hardware have been much tougher than expected. The first motor died after a couple months so i just rode tge lift. It was during covid so i rode it every day for 4 months waiting for shimano canada to respond to the local bike shop i took it too. Eventually i reached out to yt and they got me a motor in a few days. They phoned to check on me to make sure i got it. They just said we have a motor sent and to just throw the old motor in the prepaid shipping box that the replacement is beong sent with and return it when i get a chance. Great to deal with. Head of warrantee gave me his number. After a couple years of covid use and a lot in the RMR bike park i figured i had over 1 million vertical ft on it. I didnt have to touch a thing. Pivots are bomber. A couple years ago i bent a shock bolt and yt had me a new one in a week for free.
The bike itself has a reputation for good handling and id agree. Ive made a few inexpensive tweaks that i really like. The -1 degree works headset(100cad), 50mm spank skike riser bar(100cad), 152mm miranda cranks (160cad), 180mm fork airshaft (60cad) and swap to my shimano saint brakes i had. Some other wear items parts changes over time like tires, grips, seat, dropper, drivetrain and added a coil shock that i switch back and forth from the original air shock. All those parts are much improved on the current decoy as well.
If i had any complaint itd be i should have sized up and maybe the seat tube could be a degree steeper. No real complaints though. The smaller size is great whipping around tighter trails and is probably better suited for me now out east.
I bought a works components 6mm reach adjust headset for 1 1/8 and im planning on putting a 190mm downhill fork on it. I still have the originsl rock shox yari that i long stroked to 180 travel but the crowns are creaking pretty bad. Its time. Wheels still have original bearings and freehub which is also crazy. Replacement e8000 motor has 12000km on it now and it will need replaced or a serious service if possible. The bearings feel rough

Edit: quick calculator punch tells me 1million+/yr for those 2 yrs. Thousands of jumps and drops. The longest ive ever owned a single bike previously was probably 4 years and this will be year 7 on my decoy

4 months HA ! My LBS tried to get me a new EP8 for about a week but Shimano said they couldn't get one and i could see where this was going ... SO cha ching I grabbed the new Vala and enough of that shimao BS. The old Bullit is now on pinkbike for 2K, Its a medium ( anybody ? ) in great shape/ wrapped frame/ consumable tires/seat post rebuild/ chain/ sprockest/ seat had all been replaced in the last < 6 months/ good battery/ dead motor so it would have been good for this year.

So I got the Bosch Flow App instaled on my phone and getting up to speed on the Bosch product, so what are peoples experiance with running a bar mount for your phone do you end up fucking yer phone up in a crash, the sales guy at the LBS suggests Quad Lock is the one I should order there is also ordering the Kiox toptube dispaly when it come out

Man, if you ride hard at all...and if you've been on a bullit and now a vala I'm guessing yes...so any shit on your bars is going to explode on impact. And a long time ago I threw a top tube little bag on my fat bike...JFC...it was then I realized how much knee movement occurs when I ride. I always wear knee pads and hit the thing constantly. A phone would last a hot minute with me.

Im surprised santa cruz couldnt get one. If YT had tge pull needed to get one id think SC would as well. That polish fb guy sells lots of refurbished ep8's with his added sealing techniques with low km's around 500euro give or take 50euro. I think i posted the link to ond of your posts in the thread

I was overbiked but I had always wanted one, I had a blown ACL Bullit was just the only E-bike I could get during Covid so cha-ching now much less overbiked on Vala,

but yeah on a bike I use exclusively on tight single track that I sometimes fall off of maybe not the best idea to put my phone on the bars, maybe spending a chunk of change on that Kiox display in the toptube insted of blowing up a phone and later having to replace a phone and buy a Kiox is smarter ?

it sure is nice having the power button in the top tube instea d of down by the motor

yeah I was also suprised but I suspected there would be shitty support for the Shimano product in NA even tho another shop bro told me SC has the best customer service

Local buddy at my LBS tells me he used to work for SC and so he tells me the shimano rep and the SC rep are actualy married to one another

I talked to another FB guy with a shop from GB who tells me had can get EP8's in 2-3 days, or I could wank about with something on ali-express for 7-800$ but it felt like new bike time, its almost 5 yrs maybe part it out or selll whole for 2 K would be nice

Yeah, I go back n forth on what I'd like. The Bullit is beyond my pay grade, but having that suspension and another degree of ht is oh so nice on our rowdy steeps. With a battery on the up I wouldn't care about the weight as much. Then I think about an SL and the feel of a regular bike, but in my head I would continue to ride my Amish bike more than the eeb, so just ride those and get a fat eeb. I'll probably be saying the same thing next year at this time...insane in the membrane.

And my neighbor is picking his Levo up today and we're heading out for a ride this afternoon. I'm much faster on the downs, but he's going to smoke me on the ups. But the beers are at the end of the down therefore I'll be drinking first...so winning! [emoji23]

Thats it exactly ^^with 85NM one does not care if they are lugging around some extra travel and so just enjoy the 170mm altho the Vala sure feels sprightly in comparison

Shop bro offered that parting is a hassle so hopefully at only 2 K someone will buy the bike maybe they got an EP8 or an unused 801 kicking around

801 would require a new computer, battery, mode selector and possibly cables but still could be worth it. Itd be a sweet 2 eeb quiver with a triple clamp 190 fork on it to go along side your vala. Just sayin

An 801 would be just under 2K I believe, I'm not sure what that includes cuz I would need to replace absolutely every EP8 part with 801 parts ,

the motors are the same dimensions SO an 801 will physicaly bolt right in where the EP8 was BUT I'm kind of done wanking around with Shimano

I donot want to thro good money after bad so I would rather someone else bought the Bullit and i don't need 2 Eebs especilay 2 that are almost the same

Yeah I have thot about this lots, I got enough bikes , I need to only have 1 e-bike and I don't want tot mess with this but what do you think of the price for a low spec 2020 Bullit in pretty good shape with a dead motor, all maintenance up to date it probably would have gone the season til november if the motor hadn't kacked ?

We still can't ride e-bikes on the majority of single track trails in the RFV.
My primary has to take 4" tires, since I use it the most on snow.

My second bike is currently used more for gravel, commuting and getting groceries.
