Yup, like the Kenai Bourough Assembly had prayers at start of their meetings.
Courts said non-Christian groups had to be allowed to participate.
And the pastafarians got their chance

But there is no objective proof of any god ever. Anything we can nt explain does not automatically a "god" did it. If you have objective proof of a god, I will not have to believe in god, I will acknowledge the existence of said god.
Other wise subjectively belief in what you want.
FYI Agnosticism can be atheism.
The op who seems to care so much about the word he is using does not even know the words he is using.
BTW I am a gnostic Atheist.
Now that Josh has chimed in, this is settled

That is the way it works around here. Any inch of belief in god and you will get pounced on by a bunch of atheist who assume they know more than you. It’s TGR, so you’d kind of suspect that. People love to be the right one around here even if discussing a topic no one can prove. Whatevs.
And CS is mostly right with agnostics.
Gnostic or agnostic stand on their own. You are a firm believer or you question your belief. Agnostics are not some type of atheist. It is not some sub category, but a lot of people use the word Agnostic to mean something other than what it means. Again, whatevs, people are stupid.
As an example I’m an agnostic theist. I do believe in a higher power, or source and I believe it would have a consciousness. It may not be a consciousness at all like our own, and likely we would never be able to be on level with it to communicate directly. But, I don’t really have any firmness in this belief. And when it turns out I’m wrong, no skin off my back, but of course, we will likely never know I’m wrong.
Gnostics Theist or Atheist generally are just people with their heads up their assess who think they know shit about things they clearly do not.
And I don’t really care at all whether anyone else believes anything. I have friends who are part of organized religion and devout gnostic atheist friends. It really just depends on how you live your life. If your not an asshole about things,
But please continue yelling at each other over the internet. It seems pretty productive.
And I’m prepared to have y’all start throwing some stones at me for having a differing opinion on something none of y’all know shit about because simplest it is not knowable. Have fun. I’m headed backpacking with the kid.
Agnostic isn’t just a form of atheist, that has already been well litigated here. It is a form of SOMETHING though and it doesn’t stand on its own. Your subsequent arguments bear this out.
What it very much ISN’T is this enlightened middle ground that everybody seems to tout it as. When you’re an agnostic with respect to this topic you’re ALSO either a theist or an atheist. That part is pretty binary. Attacking somebody who is an atheist as being guilty of some kind of irrational illogic because you don’t understand the meaning of the words…. Well, that’s what the original topic of this thread is about. I can’t imagine anybody calling that out. Right?
Cheers on your backpacking adventure!

I get nervous when people are willing to believe in stuff without any evidence. I prefer to live in a world where reason and scientific scrutiny drive decision making.
Thank god for the Age of Enlightenment. [emoji15][emoji6][emoji849]
Hmmm
I’m kinda confused by the agnostic theist.
But. To my op.
I guess we’re arguing semantics after all.
When I was a kid agnostic was the I don’t know.
I guess now language has evolved where agnostic isn’t strong enough.
Agnostic atheist. Hmm. Ok. I get that.
We used to call that agnostic.
And so many posts here are angry at the “god” concept. It can be higher or other consciousness. Or space aliens taking you on the L Ron Hubbard shuttle to Xenu.
It doesn’t have to be a father figure answering your prayers with magical solutions.
Life is a miracle. It defies the laws of entropy.
We should not exist.
Carry on with the anger. But remember that mean people suck. And one good grilled cheese can change your trip.

Shut the fuck up. No one cares about your special snowflake preferences. Just because you don't know how life formed doesn't mean it's goddamned "miracle" or any other figure of speech..
Explain these "Laws of Entropy". Were they passed by a Republican Congress? Or are we talking One World Government Socialism-type shit?
"We should not exist." Speak for yourself and your arguments from ignorance, asstrole.
Just because your childhood discussions on the topic lacked nuance and precision doesn’t mean that something has changed in the world.
Belief is a weird thing. My mom once told me that there are facts, and then there are opinions, and then there are beliefs. At the time (probably 15 years ago) I quietly scoffed at that statement (not to her). Now I’m not so sure that it doesn’t deserve its own category. Beside the point, you have a belief in a spirit or higher being, like ott, or you don’t subscribe to that belief. That’s best described as a/theism. Either is fine. Whether you have certainty in your belief is a different thing, and like certainty with anything else the assholes tend to congregate on one end of that spectrum.
At the end of the day, it’s pretty hard to prove a negative, and requiring somebody to - i.e. “how can you be so cock sure?” and “justify atheism, please.” - reflects your own misunderstanding of this nuance, the full appreciation of which perhaps you only truly arrive at if you are continually attacked for not subscribing to the litany of fairy tales our world is so full of.

Will Baby Jesus end appeals to ignorance and obvious trolls?
"Lol hasn't yet!"
So I was wondering...If God can see the future and knows he's gonna have to send your ass to Hell, why does He bother to make you in the first place?
the big problem with atheism is you can' monetize it
dumb people suck too BTW

I'm conumdrum even to myself.
Raised and educated Catholic in a big Irish clan. Father went to Mass everday but it was his thing - he didn't make note of it to anyone or expect others to follow his lead though he asked that I attend Sundays until I was confirmed then it was my choice. Practiced into my 40s. For me The Church was a positive experience. There is much I enjoyed about going and to this day I'm still amazed at the positive energy a group of people coming together in worship can generate but it was partly do to that palpable energy that lead to me realize that people themselves hold amazing power for good.
I have since lost my faith. Many reasons come into play but mostly for me it's just not logical. Maybe I don't understand what God is supposed to do. Why he would save someone from a natural disaster when he could just not allow it to happen in the first place. Why he would take my father's two sons from him when my father devoted his life to living his word. Why evil would lurk within his houses of worship (in all sects).
Personally I think the Bible is nothing more than a collection of old wives tales and cautions sent down through the centuries due to cloistered communities (i.e. the WHOLE world flooded so Noah built an ark and everything was devastated - hint, their world wasn't that big, they were unaware of the rest of the globe at that time) and lack of food preservation/sanitation (i.e. shellfish and pork are not to be eaten - most likely started due to people getting sick from red tide/shellfish allergy and trichinosis).
Being Catholic is part of my life. I no longer have faith but I have not forgotten the teachings - to this day I could step into Mass and recite the profession of faith without missing a beat but I can state without hesitation that I do not believe there is such a being/entitiy/what-have-you as God. I believe that Humans are just another animal on this planet and like any other animal there is no grand point to life. We are born, we live maybe we procreate then we die. End of story. That said a person can make a positive impact during their lives and make the world a better place if they choose.
Whatever.

That’s the point at which whether your belief is true or not matters, yes.
I believe that my girlfriend’s little SUV drives like shit, but she likes it, I love and respect her, and I don’t have to drive it, so I keep that to myself and help her take care of it when it needs servicing.
focus.
Believing that your girlfriend's little SUV drives like shit is nothing to get nailed to a cross for, that's for sure...But the fact of the matter is sometimes more important in a relationship.
How different things might be if your girlfriend's other boyfriend drove like shit, for example? Would you service his Porsche when it needed it to keep your girlfriend happy and not creating problems?
