Bacon tastes good. Pork chops taste goood.
What a finish to the vendee globe.
VendeeGlobe.org
Race around the world in exactly 80 days
Line hours
1 Charlie Dalin
2 Louis Burton
3 TBD
4 TBD most likely Thomas Ruyant linked out
5 Yannick Bestavan
Boris just hit a fishing boat. Yikes
Yannick Bestavan will most likely time correct to first place. Jean Le Cam may time correct into the top 5. Who knows how fast boris can sail with a compromised boat the last 38 nautical miles. If he finishes less than 6 hours behind Charlie he will time correct to 1st place until Yannick crosses the line.

Was looking up the schedules to see when the next Prada Cup races are going to happen live.
Feb. 13, 14, 17, 19, 20, 21, 22.
Which is Feb. 12, 7PM EST to Feb. 13 1AM Est, and so on here in the US.
Anyways, looks as if NBC Sports Gold is what carries this, but they want $175 to watch this show (which they helpfully discount to $160 with a code). Isn't this a billionaires' race anyways? Why are they charging an arm and a leg to see this thing?
Anyone know if you can just watch it live on Youtube through America's Cup website or do you get kicked to NBC because of geolocation blackout rules?
Wait, there are English subtitles on the Vendee Globe videos? Dammit. My son and I were watching the weekly recaps for a while, but eventually stopped as he would be like "What's he doing?" and I would say "I think he's saying that he ran into bad weather...no wait, it's his wife's birthday...no wait, he has repaired a mast using nothing but his onboard carbon fiber repair kit?"

I have been following these two for about 7-10 months. Pretty interesting and they are not totally annoying. They have been posting videos for around 3 years.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.
"Happiest years of my life were earning < $8.00 and hour, collecting unemployment every spring and fall, no car, no debt and no responsibilities. 1984-1990 Park City UT"
Yeah, like French translates into much you can actually make sense of......heh.
I'm amazed they got the Patriot righted and pumped. It was a helluva tack, though.
Surprised they couldn't/didn't release the main to keep the boat from going over when that gust hit them.
Just saw that a backstay prevented the main from falling off the wind. Mainsheet was released at the end of the traveler. Weird arrangement that it would do that; Guess the enginerding can only adjust upon failure. Supposedly that shroud was designed to slacken but didn't. But amazed they floated her. Some intense sinkings in the analysis footie around 36:00.
["And she went down like a greased refrigerator."]
Once saw the Coasties drop six pumps from a chopper to a 65 foot ferro cement ketch as it was taking on big water in a typhoon. 1 pumped work. Nuff said.

Yes, a fully battened main hanging up on the jammed running back stay on a boat with very tight margin of error equals calamity.
Nice thread!
What’s a broke slacker in Colorado to do but to dream of sailing?!
My buddy is going to get some kind of 19 footer I think. I forgot what he said it was called, but it’s not a fixed keel and you can take the mast down easily. Good for like small lakes I guess.
I saw I can rent a 22 Catalina on lake Dillon. Ya know, once it thaws. Never sailed but I’m pretty stoked to learn. Read a few things to get an idea.
We had this bass boat and what you’d do is, on a calm day, you hook it up to the truck and drive to the lake. You’d watch the wind build up to a fucking steady 25 mph by the time you arrived. I said then, I need a sailboat. Emphasis on need. Christ I can’t hardly buy a lift ticket lol.
Anyway, keep that sailing stoke coming!
And can I just say while I’m here that those retractable hydrofoil things are fucking HIDEOUS and make the boat look fucking stupid. The do seem to go fast though lol.
Have fun!

If we're gonna wear uniforms, we should all wear somethin' different!
Dude, what are you talking about. Those hydrofoils are sexy.
Replaced original flooring after 40 some years on my sailboat. Before and after pics

Probably like saying an F-1 is “ugly.” Nobody is driving it to the grocery anyway. Good thing my opinion about sailing doesn’t count because I literally know nothing. They are obviously marvels.
Just running at 40+ knots in what looks like a light breeze. That would outrun a sport fisher. So maybe she don’t look like ms Monroe but I don’t reckon I’d throw her out of bed for eating crackers.

That’s cool! Nice! I just looked up what a J-70 is that looks like a fun boat!
Cool!! That looks very nice.
Hope y’all have some fun on the water soon!

that 19' is prolly a Mac 19 trailer sailor. fun lil boat. my buddy has a 40 HP on his and we just blast upwind and fall off tacking downwind. The water ballast is key. it pumps in sea water fast and weights it down. even in half ass wind you feel like you're somewhat ripping.
hacky drunko sailing, nothing serious. we are old school windsurfer buds. Just enjoy getting out there.
Learning the basics of sailing is key. Upwind reaching isn't as easy as you might think. Lots to learn.
we still have an old Mercury here on the cape that was retired from community boating on the charles river in Boston. fun lil boat when it's blowing 10-15 knots

Damn, Cat - what wood did you use? it's got a teak/mahogany color but doesn't look like teak or mahogany at all.
Marine plywood. Teak and Holly face
