I'm going to be a dad!

We found out last week that my wife is pregnant. We found out this week that it's a boy! Well, needless to say we're super excited. The one "complication" is that we had a trip planned at the end of August to go to Africa for a 2-week safari (Kenya and Tanzania). Obviously, the doctor recommended that we not go given my wife would need several immunizations (Yellow & Typhoid fever, Hep A) and that medical care would be a challenge if any problems arose. So, needless to say, this guy has already cost us a few grand in lost deposit money, but it's money well spent!

And in true proud parent fashion, I've uploaded some pics of my son.

Any recommendations on a good how-to manual on raising a kid?

I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

Congrats, Spanky! As a dad who is on the other end of the kid spectrum, I'll just recommend that you treasure the time you have with them. It blows my mind how fast it goes. Our 3rd one is getting married and leaving home next month. We've only got one left. Kids are the greatest.

    Actually, yes... go get
The Baby Book. I referred to it a hundred times. It's especially great for first-time parents.

Congrats to you too Crinkle! Well, my wife is now 18 weeks pregnant and we were able to find out the sex. How did it slip by? Well, let's just say my wife is not of the "regular" type, so a couple of misses were not any surprise. She was in the process of seeing a few docs over the past few months to figure out what was going on. Unfortunately, the last time they tested her, it was before she was pregnant. Due date is 12/9.

    Arrow CONGRATS

Same thing happened to me this year with our planned trip to JH, but we needed to save the 3 grand for whats to come.

    I'm recommend:

read this with your lady to show her you're involved with what she is doing.

Good move skipping Africa. I did a 6 week safari through Zimbab and Botswana and returned VERY SICK. It took over a year to get various microbes purged from my system at a cost of several thousands of dollars. I would not go back there again for any reason.
    Congrats on the baby
(somebody should re-do this guy with a smile for times like this)

    Congrats spanky, crinkle, and NorCal!

Fatherhood is quite the adventure…to say the least. Be prepared to shed lots of blood, sweat, and tears...but it goes without saying that its totally worth it!

Experiencing things like your offspring’s first words, first steps, first time on snow, first day at school…etc is truly priceless.
    Its a never-ending TR.

Here’s one of mine on her first day surfing on Thursday. She’s a natural.

Holy cow, that is awesome for all of you, including Norcal (first daughters rule)!

    Crinkle, huge congrats my friend!

As for baby books, we use Baby 411 quite a bit. Lots of to the point info.

The feelings you will have for your new ones will be out of this world.

Very cool for both of you. My wife and I were given a book by a friend that was called Best Baby Bargins or something close to that. The book has a lot of good tips on what to buy, and what to avoid when you set up the nusurey. We need to get a move on buying that stuff though, we are due Oct 1 and have only bought a few things and have been given some stuff from friend and family.
