    Feet shrinking while skiing?

Maybe I am just still fried from years of abuse, but man it seems like my feet shrink by mid day on a full ski day. Especially if I hike. Or are my boot just getting softer?

Boots (1 month old Nordica Strider 130 with Intuition Power Wrap MV) fit perfect from 9am to about 12:30 or 1. After that I start to feel like I am swimming in them and spend much of the afternoon feeling like my boots aren't tight enough. Yesterday it got pretty warm mid day and after a long hike on the ridge I felt like I had flip flops on while skiing down.

Now the liners are only 2 months old, but I had a hell of a time with them and used them in FT Seths for a few weeks before switching boots. They have been baked 4+ times. They are pretty stiff now and ski well, but maybe I killed them and packed out too much volume?

Maybe I need to finally bite the bullet and go to a fitter.....

I experience the same thing in a pair of power wraps that have been cooked fewer times, as well as another pair of boot similarly configured. While I wouldn't call it "swimming" I do feel like they get less tight. I figure it's foot shrinkage and liner warm-up combined and just keep tightening buckles as the day goes by.

Yeah I doubt your feet are getting smaller. Just getting your boots all warmed up makes them feel a lot softer.

Yes, feet shrinking is a common phenomenon. You should google swellable socks, they are designed to counteract shrinking feet.

Ok, so I am realizing that these boots are marketed as "medium volume" but they are definitely high volume in the forefoot/toe box. Only remedy is a high volume liner, right? I am already maxed out on the lower buckles (even though I molded them with the lower buckles about as loose as they go) while the uppers buckles could go a shitload tighter.

I think as long as you keep your boots on during this process your feet will conform to the inside of the liners. Make sure you keep the buckles loose, so you can tighten them up when you want to go skiing. Get ready for the best-fitting boots you've ever had!

Boots are only 1 month old with 2 month old liners that have been baked 4x?? If you bought them from a proper fitter I'd say go back in and discuss your issues. Sounds like thats not the case, but I think a visit may be in your near future.

How do a 2 month old pair of liners get baked 4 times? Thats more than just trial and error. Wow..

I do agree that boots tend to soften during a day as they warm up, but seems like this may be more than that.

    I'm not a doctor, but........

If you want swollen feet, you really should look into heart failure.

Diabetes is a bit more geared toward amputation, and that can take a while. Though it will eliminate any pesky sixth toe issues.

Gonna need to punch that foot out where it's loose in the boot.

its true, your boots don't fit.

You shouldn't be maxing out and lower buckles.

Guess I missed that one. Sounds like a mess. Dude needs to build a relationship with a reputable shop and get boots that fit.

DIY is all well and good until it doesn't work.. sounds like the OP is there. Consult a pro!

Thats ^^^ why I hit the intuition factory out let on my way thru Vangroovy ... so far they have always been perfect

I have seen these threads where the OP buys shiny boots off the internet on sale which are wrong so they buy another shiny boot on sale the next year which are also wrong

It might be cheaper in the end to pay the boot fitter

and it won't hurt the feet as much

Yeah, fresh pair of Intuitions might well salve a good part of the problem.

Feet do get smaller as the day goes on. Wake up in the morning jump in the car the fluid in your body goes down to your feet and your boots are snug. As the day goes on the compression of the boots and the pumping action of the calf muscles pushes and sucks fluid out of the feet. The boots also get softer as they get warmer. You could pack the boots in snow on warm days, before each run. Just don't expect your friends to wait for you.

None of this changes the fact that your boots don't fit.

I had always heard that feet swell later in the day and that you should try on ski/hiking boots in the afternoon for that reason. So that’s not true?

Well, I just bought another pair of new intuitions on CL for basically free. Since I used some crypto currency that I bought a while ago this pair cost me like a $1.50 Lol. This last mold will hopefully get me through the season, but I have a recco for the good local fitter and will be seeing them in the fall for sure....or in a week if I fuck this one up.
