And so what, it gets more expensive, just like everything these days. Do you really need 6 pairs of skis in a quiver? $200 gloves? High end wool underwear? Yeti cooler (in the winter) filled with IPAs that were $15 for 4 fucking cans? $300 goggles? All stuffed in your roof box of the $60k SUV that you sat in traffic for 3 hrs each way to stand in line for a few hours with your neighbors from the front range? A season pass to 30 mountains is the least of your costs. Go sell some plasma, it'll cover the difference.

That said…the taxi fare from JAC to town (not even the village) drives me nuts.

What if you have 2 skis in the quiver, 8 year old gloves, Costco underwear, don't drink, a 20 year old Coleman cooler, Chinese goggles from Amazon, and drive a 17 year old car with 225k miles on it?

Unfortunately you aren't the target customer anymore and they really don't care about you. If you aren't going to travel and spend on lodging or spend lots of money on lessons/rentals, they honestly don't care about you.

God, I miss the days of only spending $15 for a 4 pack of IPAs.

This shit is getting way too complicated. Can Chatbot help me figure this out?

I've noticed Alterra owned Crystal ($200 day ticket) has numerous sales and other various ways to get your ticket price down to $100. BOGO, 50% off, midweek 3 packs that are good on weekends starting in March. For my one day a week, weekend warrior wife I'm getting a 4 pack Ikon session ($110 a day) and using these other discounts to ski 8 days or so at Crystal, at $100 a day, with a few trips to places like White Pass that still have $75 lift tickets.

Then you might just make the cut and live the ski life. Dunno how easy it was or wasn't 20 years ago but ski bumming does not come with a sprinter and renting a nice house for cheap. People take the the influencer bait then cry skiing is unaffordable. The evolution of touring gear brought a lot of freedom from resorts.

Of course you can always just walk up to the Mammoth ticket window and drop $238 for a day ticket, and probably more at many other hills.

Fortunately for some of us, Ikon is our season pass, but I know it really sucks for those of you who have to buy an even more expensive pass and an Ikon pass.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

Well, I own more than 2 skis, but I only ski on 2 of them mid season. I wasn't counting the early season groomer skis, the sand skis, the xc skis, and the other xc skis. Was I supposed to count those?

Will do. I should get the info on the 16th, which is the same day I fly to Oz, so there might be a short time delay. A lot closer right now, but still and 8 hour flight.

I guess I should have read the print. I only glanced at the email, and shuffled it away, as I do with most of the promotional email I get. I guess reading is important. My English teacher wife always says something like that.

"Because you are a previous pass holder, save up to $50 off every Ikon Pass or Ikon Base Pass you purchase"

No link, and not the full renewal discount but I assume you would see it in your cart when you throw a pass in there.

As for quivers, I think I have something close to 10. My newest ski was bought used in 2020. Best way to build a quiver is buy someone else skis. Skiing is for sure expensive, but you can do it on a budget. We are not dentists, but still get in our time. I think the season pass is the hardest pill to swallow, because it is the biggest lump sum, especially for those with kids. We have one, still under 12, so not a huge dent. Yet. Just waiting till they start wanting new skis and new outwear. Hopefully I am training them well.
