The bottom zipper opens up to easily go over my F1LT’s. Then it zips back up and snaps when I start and also do the changeover. It doesn’t have thigh zips, but these are lightweight. I have some warm Dynafits w/ thigh zips for very cold days.

I am a pants whore, I have Cirque II, Beta AR, Dawn Patrol Hybrids, and Dynafit Mercury. I also have 2 pairs of skimo nerd pants: Ortovox Col Becchei and some older Crazy Idea pants similar to the Avenger I think. The skimo nerd pants are so so much more comfortable and regulate temps better than others, and are way less constricting. They don't have gaiters so I don't wear them when its wet out, or if I'm doing a bunch of scrambling, but if you want high performance pants its worth getting some nerd leggings.

I like the Ortovox, and wanted the Berrino (since it is available in long or actually wanted the Bacun for the name), but they were never in stock in long. Anyway, for this application I think the Malojas are better. I have the Mercury for cold days, and my old Arcteryx whatevers that I’m preserving.

So you unzip the cuff at every transition? Doesn't it ice up? The zips on my Trailbreakers were caked with ice after 4 or 5 laps (of 11) a couple of days ago and I don't think I could have moved them.

I would love to try the skimo nerd pants but I can't imagine having my boot cuffs exposed. Cold seeps into the liner would suck! I guess they'd be great for lapping groomers though.

FWIW I have the older Trailbreakers and my GF has the newer ones. I think it's a downgrade--new ones' pockets are smaller and they seem a little tighter overall.

Cuffs always stay unzipped for me. Do others zip the cuffs on top of their boots? I suppose that could make sense if you have a Alien RS or a boot with a skimo style transition. I use pants with gaiters if I'm booting or trailbreaking in deep snow, otherwise don't have issues.

I unzip them because I can. Didn’t ice up, but I’ve never had that problem. Ever. They have elastic, and would just stretch, but it was easy to zip, so why not? The trail breakers are similar in weight to my Mercury’s, these are way lighter, and designed to be more minimalistic. Also, I cut out the inner boot thing on my Mercury’s. The outer cuff provides enough snow stoppage for me.

Save your money and get some FA Guide Pro ski tour pants. Well thought pockets, gaiter and cuff guards. Very breathable and water resistant. Thigh pockets have sewn loop for beacon on both sides. Brushed fleece lining that’s part of the weave.

Only reason I'm considering the 'gucci is the upcoming 40% off sale. They have a nice blend of features for my wet-side use.

I just ordered the Maloja recc'd by plugboots. Maybe I'll also order those cheapo Eddie Bauers for a shootout and return the loser. These are a bit lighter than I'm after but I'm open to trying em. BD hybrids look aight, too.

My old ass flylow neoshell pants are my favorite ever, but they are shredded and there's not an analog made by anybody anymore. Not many neoshell pieces out there now at all, per Polartec's product finder, unfortunately.

Been digging my Stio Upslopes. Plenty breathable (no brushed backer, which I prefer) but still have thigh zips. I took them out on a few storm days so far and didn’t wet out. Thigh pockets are positioned well, pretty burly cuff guard. Sewn beacon attachment in the right thigh pocket. Definitely recommend.

Yeah those look pretty nice. Starting to get into the spendy class IMO. All their stuff looks good but expensive, and I've never seen it on sale. Maybe not looking very hard, tho

They might have a “first time customer” discount, but ya they are pricier than other options.

The EB FA might not be the best for the crest and wet side touring. They’re a bargain for what they are compared to the usual outdoorsy brands

I love these pants. They are light but seem reasonably durable. Prob. not as much wind and water protection as a Gore Tex pant, but they have been plenty wind and waterproof enough. I've never had any luck with fit on Patagonia pants, but these are a slim cut, and the medium fits me great. Wish they were a tad longer. The cuffs work great for lighter touring boots, and are just big enough to fit over my Rad Pros or Maestrales.

Norseman, if you end up getting them I'd love to hear your opinion as well. The material looks similar to the defunct Descensionist pant I've been touring in for a a while. Kinda like a hardshell but much softer and reasonably breathable, perfect for the Wasatch. I only wear a layer under those pants if temps are below 10 otherwise I get too hot. The Descensionist were way baggier with a really large cuff that easily went over any boot, including ZGTP with opened buckles. They were almost too baggy, those Stormstride might be better for touring since they seem a bit tighter without going euro-fit and choking your thighs and dong.

My main concern with the Stormstride is the lack of a 3rd pocket, looks like they recycled the design of the 2 thigh pockets of the Descensionist but removed the smaller higher pocket that was perfect for a beacon. I hate having my beacon hanging mid thigh in a large pocket, I can feel it move around with every step.

I have some medium patagonia snowdrifters(new with tags) that i bought from whiteroom guardian that ill be selling if interested. I shouldve checked better but medium in those is smaller than medium ascdnsionists. I couldnt find his add but he listed them for $275 shipped i believe(i paid a little extra because canada). Id sell for his price or offer up. Dark greyish blue. They have a bib but its super light stretchable softshell type material

I’ve been very happy with the arc rush lt bib for a touring and occasional inbounds shell and the procline soft shell pant for fair weather.

Pata pant patterns are insufficient for these hams.

The stormstride kit is a rare win for the ever shifting pata line imho. The jacket is great and am similarly curious about the pants. One wonders what the PMs do at patagonia year to year to screw up so many good pieces...

i didn't read through all the prior posts, so apologies if this was already mentioned, but I really like my OR Trailbreaker II pants. Things I like (in no particular order):
    - Very breathable and very ventable
    - Waterproof enough for anything other than sleet or rain
    - Right beacon pocket (far from my phone which is always in my left chest pocket
    - Big cargo pocket for a field book
    - Relatively inexpensive compared to others
    - Optional suspenders and belt loops
    - Mesh gaiters that keep snow out of your boots when bootpacking but don't feel like plastic bags around your ankles
    - Fancy powerstrap integration, though I never use that
    - Zippered ankles that let you get the pants over touring boots with buckles open and zip them back up for a tight snow-proof seal

I bought a pair of these a few years back and really like them for touring, but it appears they are no longer available.
