It's really not about what kind of skis you use despite what people will have you believe. The ones you have already aren't holding you back.

Depends how hard he's going to "charge" in the back country. Maybe he should just go with the CAST system?
I think I'll take this advice then. Just stick it out with the kendo until February or so and then reexamine the situation. I just can't resist pulling out my wallet wen I see a good deal lol

Seriously, spend your money on lessons. If you're actually as strong as you claim and are also athletic (different than strong), you just need to learn how to ski efficiently. Kendos are not that heavy.

Regarding lessons, get short ones (2 hrs, no more than half day) where you learn some skill and then practice it the rest of the day. And drop your ego at the door. The most common complaint I hear from young strong guys who are taking lessons after learning a bit on their own is how the lessons stuck to really easy terrain when they can already ski harder offpiste terrain. But the thing is, you need to unlearn bad habits and learn new ones. If can't do the drills/skills properly on flat groomers, how are you supposed to do them in challenging terrain? You squat heavy, right? It's like if someone was squatting with their weight on their toes and getting nowhere near parallel. They'd have to learn the correct technique with the bar first and slowly increase the weight while maintaining technique or they'd go right back to their bad habits as soon as the weight got heavy.

Edit: we posted at the same time. Glad you're taking that advice.

If you steer around the jabs you're getting good advice here. If you have money to get foundation skis -- Sierra trading post has F95's for cheep. Its a firm bamboo ski without metal so definitely my choice if you were deciding between Kendo and F95 from jump. But you're not. I'd say rent some softer skis, get some lessons, gain some skill, ski with people better than you, and soon you'll be happy skiing those Kendos.

DEFINITELY do not buy 82 wide skis. After 2 years on the Kendos and more days in soft snow you'll be looking for wider pow oriented skis with waist between 106-116 to pair with them. By then you'll feel silly saying a 170 ski is heavy and unmanageable..

Dude, you need ski lessons. Your Kendos are fine. The reason why they feel heavy is because you're probably skiing in the back seat and having to lift your feet to release the ski in a turn. I used to be 135lbs (when I was a teenager) and skied on 180s all the time at that weight. It's a technique thing.

Have you considered the Rossignol Soul 7? It is the pinnacle of ski design and performance. It absolutely crushes the competition. You'll be buzzing the tower so fast they'll call you Maverick.

They go through more snow with ease than Tony Montana. Ice? That's no problem either. They cut up that shit like a pissed off ex cuts the sidewalls on your pickup truck tires. No problem.

They come in short sizes too for your petite figure.

Literally anything you want to ski, they do it. Thinking not required. You'll be so fucking badass that all the ski town whores will be lined up for a taste of your vitamin "c"men. Be sure to post up some pics of their titties for us to enjoy.

Peace out. Have fun. Soul 7 for life.

    Finna ski asap, boi.

^^^ What they said, lessons, evolve, however:

If you really wanna open that wallet, check out Nordica Navigator 90; soft flex, turny personality, nice allrounder to grow into them kendos. Not my kinda skis but I think OP could benefit from them.

Edit; maybe tgr not best forum for op, pugski perhaps?

Might I suggest(nothing personal) a few+ lessons.... Following a better skier can solve more than a few issues that didn't pan out the first time......

With a previously torn acl, go directly to snowboarding, maybe a 140cm board. Snowblades might work in a pinch.
