    I can explain it.

Yes... you can make any shape turn on any ski.

The 3D radius (with the rocker profile, I think) means that if you lean the ski over a little you get a long radius and a long effective edge.

Lean over harder to the side (and I don't mean drive the tips harder... just lean over) the the shorter radius cambered section hooks up and they turn quicker and shorter radius... easily.

It's the real deal. I have no affiliation with volkl buyt I'm 100% sold on the execution of this concept.

Sorry for the thread drift on the dynastar thread... I still want to try the mfree 108 in a 182.

So, the same technology they referred to as “extended tip profile” on Volkl’s 10+ years ago? The idea was that the widest part of the tip was further forward than the point of edge contact. The more aggressively you angulate the ski, the more edge you are able to engage. So the ski skis longer for more aggressive skiers and shorter for less aggressive ones.

For the record I did have an affiliation with Volkl for several years.

Edit: don’t mean to come off as snarky. The point of me asking about 3D sidecut was to point out my perceived absurdity at calling out a company for advertising a turn radius at 38M when your home computer tells you the geo produces a 40M radius. 38 and 40 are both really long, and most skiers can make many different turn shapes on their skis of choice.

^^^ I can't comment on that since last year was the first year I've skied anything from volkl.

I will just say that this design (I own the blaze 106 and the Katana 108) both ski similarly in the way I described above. Long radius un-hooky turns and short radius railed turns are easy... and probably the most intuitive skis to switch between the 2 that I have ever tried.

As a side note I will all that I think the short radius portion is a bit sensitive to mount point.

    YMMV

Edit: happy to discuss this more but this isn't the right thread. Sorry for the thread drift.

Done with the sidecut stuff, sorry about the drift. More importantly, from a pro who might be involved in the development of a certain new M pro; 192-193 length, 108-110 mid, "pretty long" sidecut. Definitely intrigued. Hoping for 110 myself, but will probably buy either way.

I really hope this new MPro is not a MFree108 / LP105 love child… because then I’d have to buy one…

I sold my LP105s and Corvus to buy a Cochise 106 this year in an attempt to have one single 108 class ski….

If a full metal 2300-2400 gram, 25ish meter radius, modern shape, dynastar charger existed, the Cochise / Katana decision would be much more difficult…

    The Dynastar Thread

Came here to say, still have yet to be disappointed by the Mfree 108.

Blown away but how nimble it can be yet truck when you need it to. I do wish the turn radius was a bit longer. I only notice it when on piste but that likely is just coming from skis with >30m side cut. May detune just a scosh.

Took up my Bonafides for my first turns of the year and have spent every run wishing I had my MFrees.

It’s too soft right now for Bonafides! But I understand the desire to protect the MFrees until things get a bit deeper and covered.

Yeah, way too soft but I was worried about coverage. I didn't need to be. Great coverage at Snoqualmie so far. Also the forecast of freezing rain had we questioning what to bring up. Should have just thrown 2-3 options in the box. 1st day hiccups as usual.

    Nope.
The longest length that Inspireds were made in was 188cm.

The SuperNobis, father of the Prorider, was made in 194cm with Inspired graphics.
Supernobis = 90mm waist and upturned tail.
4x4 Bigs = 85mm waist and flat tail.

So was the 4x4 big in 194 still used as the team comp ski back in the day or what was used?

I think it's in this thread, and am guessing that everyone else is lazier than myself to post links. So I guess that means you're lucky that I'm even telling you to read the thread.

Perhaps someone is more giving than myself. I'm pretty sure it's here.

I found discussion about intuitiv era stuff but not much about 4x4 era. Haven't gone thru all 90 something pages, but the thread search doesn't work for whatever reason.

The first fat ski afaik was the Big Powder (circa ‘97 maybe?), not sure if anyone competed on those or if the hardcores were still hucking on straight skis like the Radical Extreme.

    From there the lineage= 4x4Big (flames) > Intuitiv Big (just a reskinned 4x4) > SuperNobis > Prorider

From what I've read, the AA is just a reskinned 4x4 big.

Only had the Arnos in 194 but they had 2 sheets of metal and where made in the ”racing atelier”. Tried the 188 also but they were much softer. In Chamonix they where very popular and I think they where a model of their own like Inspired by Nobis which came later🤔

The gear rumors thread has me geeked about the LPR/MPro 105 update, do we have a name for them yet? MPro 110? Hope we're not losing the 105s outright... Per LWS in the other thread the new ski will slot into MFree 108 lengths, wonder if that could mean we're getting 105s back in shorter lengths too. Hm. Probably too much to hope for.
