Depends on where you call local,

Martin V's staff at Pro Guiding does a good job with all 3.
I'll second that, I did my AIARE 2 with them and I thought they did a great job.

If you are new to the back country, I strongly recommend taking the Intro to Ski Touring course Pro guide offers in addition to the avy 1 course. I believe they give a discount if you do both. The ski touring course is a 100 % movement and application based course.

Yup yup, that's the plan. Hopeful to do it this year, funds allowing. I need gear though and have been watching the GS closely. Buying the BCA T3 Rescue Kit soon. I see PGS has rentals, so may go that route just to get out there. Physically, I'm ready. Mentally, I can barely read a map. Aptitude and attitude is there though.

I don't have any experience with their courses but I do really like their staff at the store. I'm hoping I can save up some cash for some of their courses next year.

Not AIARE courses but they are free and will get you going in the right direction. And you get a bunch of top notch instructors to learn from

Explored the skin track to Mt. Catherine today up to the clearing on the North facing side at 4100' (47.3759, -121.4305). Lots of funky crust/ice top layers from last night's weather. Lots of fun skinning on logs, but it looks like it'll take several more feet of base to ride a clean line

    Few turns at the clearing.

My new hh coat is decently waterproof but hoping it'll stay cold enough to not have to worry. Thank God I got new over glasses goggles in this week, esp if it's mix percip.

I didn't fair to well trying to shred tracked pow opening week at sno and was hoping for a little pow over hard pack. I realized I have no idea how to ski true knee deep pow and I ended up digging my self out for at least 10 minutes.

Poked around in the Mt Dweebus vicinity yesterday with a buddy. Found right-side-up well-bonded pow on protected slopes with 2" of fresh atop. Installed a mellow skin track and smugly cruised it all afternoon in solitude. Most other slopes were either tree-bombed, sun-crusted, or melted off completely. Shit's thin everywhere. Ullr!

I said fuck it for my potential 7 day on the mountain. I didn't want to be soaked and end up sitting at the bar pissed off. Hopefully the temp drops so Wednesday there will be some fresh on the ground.

For some reason on my tablet it always deletes when I try to edit,

Go Carolina Panthers. Also part of the reason I stayed home. Normally I'd ski instead of watch football, but I love my panthers.
