I think a response to this is that when men are objectified the context is different and it arguably has a different effect.

I don't disagree. The reason I asked Mtngirl was that I wondered about the reading, not the writing. As b-bear recently said elsewhere, "it's kind of our schtick here but it's like when you can't stop an inside joke that has gotten old and stale." Doesn't make it funny or good, but once the age of the joke becomes 90% of its substance the real meaning has been changed. Drama can be stirred by ignoring that fact though. Which is nice.
