You don't get it. You really don't.

I didn't bother commenting on the substance of your marriage thread because it's obviously pop psychology self-help book palaver that we've all heard before, again and again and again.

If your friend is the corresponding author on that one.... there is enough substance to question his style.

You lack both substance, and style

They aren't more about style vs substance, they are just being human. Humans are an inherently emotional species after all. Content and logic are fine and all but style is just as important in that that is the emotional part of any message. And while you and mtngirl are essentially correct in your content, the style is the entire issue here. Sometimes in rhetoric condescension can be a useful tool but it also must be expected to be met with defensiveness and derision.

Do the activities we support and the ideology we espouse help or hinder progress? These are all great questions that each of us should be able to relay without much forethought as the topics should be familiar. What concerns me is the way you deliver the message. It's not so much about the underlying point as much as the way it's structured. It's much more effective to develop rapport and rely on the generosity and reasonable nature of others to help push an agenda forward. Nobody likes someone that 'rocks the boat' more than the crowd is comfortable with. So, how about a little less aggressive, nicer approach to things? Tone it down a little & reap the bennys.
    Nicely played.

    Dear Pio,

My work is very much connected to what you are talking trying to describe. I'm lucky to spend time with people who are among the most powerful voices in the world for equity in education. The biggest difference between them and you is that they have a fundamental respect for the intellect and experiences of their audience, whether that audience is made up of supporters or those whose beliefs and practices function to sustain the White supremacy. They possess a great deal of humility and capacity for empathy, as well as great self confidence.

You, on the other hand, have an air of someone who would like to believe he possesses special knowledge. I've seen no evidence of this special knowledge. You act as if you have a monopoly on Truth. There is no such thing.

Perhaps spending time with people who constantly reject your message reifies, for you, the illusion that you are special? Or maybe you're just a masochist who's too shy to ask his wife to tie him up and paddle him on the ass.

I always love it when someone accuses me of arrogance while pretending they can diagnose me over the internet. Talk about some fucking style over substance.
