Skins? Since BD doesn't make mohair anymore...

Who makes something that is as low friction, light, and packable as the BD Mohair that they stopped making for some unfathomable reason?

I googled it up based on your post... is it true you absolutely have to use glue protectors with them? I don't use those on my BD skins after the first 10 times or so as they are a PITA particularly in the wind. $240 is a lot of dough even without a limitation

I only ever use protectors for summer storage.

They are fucking sticky though... cursing often needed to rip them apart.

I have the their Mohair and Mix as does regular touring buddy.

Their tip loop design (changed now?) was a bit funky so I use BD loop

4 or 5? seasons? Lots of touring. Have also run various types of G3 and BD skins.

Highly recommend Coltex.

Only certain versions of their skins require glue protectors.

I have a set I don't use them on. Work fine.

These skins have great glide and adequate grip, and the mohair has been reasonably durable. However, the Pomoca glue deteriorates pretty fast compared to BD, and turns into a gloppy mess. Need to reglue a couple sets of pomocas for this reason that have been used between 1.5-2 seasons.

They make the skins for Dynafit. Very nice glide and very light, but the glue is not the greatest. Ices up and becomes un-sticky easily (be very careful applying and removing from skis.) I bought mine used with demo skins, so don't know their full history, but had to do a complete reglue (with BD gold) after two seasons of light use.

I've been liking my contour skins I got last year. Put about 60 days on them last winter and they are holding up great. They don't stick to themselves nearly as bad as BD skins but still stick to your skis 90% as well as BD skins.

I got a couple pair of Dynafit/ pomoca skins, good glide and significantly lighter than my G3 or BD, as for the glue IME the glue on all skin brands fucks up so get a tube of Gold label glue for 12$ and reglue when it does

So...What's wrong with BD skins? Loved my mix and regular orange from the old days, and now I've got 1 season on the Ultralite mix, and would definitely buy again. They're lighter, pack much smaller, glide as well or better, seems to be same glue, (which I liked).

Nothing beats the BD Ascension nylons for durability, reliability and grip. Best glue. So unless you're wearing spandex....
