I was due to be at the Cosmopolitan from Wednesday for two nights for my 40th.
I didn't want to fuck up the other thread so posting my shit here. I don't think it's going to be the party that I was expecting / hoping for.
Booked a package through Expedia. Been on the phone for 3 hours today. I can change to November but the changes will cost the same fucking price as the original trip.
I paid, $1,300 all in for 2 of us. Flights and hotel.
To push it back a few weeks will cost $1,100.
WWMD? How grim will it be in 36 hours time?
I realize people have lost lives, family, friends etc. I'd be happy to eat a few hundred but $1,100? That hurts.

I flew out of a gate at LAG the day after a a plane that flew the same route dropped out of the sky. It was weird but normal. My 2 cents.
I took my wife out to a fine dinner and then to "The Brick" for beers on our 40th. You are a nice guy.A few people feel the rain. Most people just get wet.

Just go on your trip. While I don't mean this in any way to undermine the seriousness of what happened, it's not like the city was ravaged by an earthquake or something, so most of the strip will continue to carry on business as usual. Cosmo is in the middle of the strip so there's enough distance away... unlike if you had rooms at The Mandalay or Luxor.
Besides, supporting the city right now isn't the worst thing, as I'm sure this will be a tourism hit for the next few weeks.

That's my thought on it. When tragedy strikes, whether man-made or natural, tourism is typically hit pretty hard, which hurts all the worker bees pretty badly. Continued tourist support is typically much appreciated after bad things happen.

My very first thought when I got the news this morning was to still go.
Eventually my wife pointed out that the subdued atmosphere might not be the best place to be. At least I can drink the first $1,200 worth of champagne as a free drink.
Shitty fucking day. Notwithstanding I'm the lucky one.

It's Vegas, the strip clubs will as busy as always.
Why anybody would intentionally go to LV is beyond me, I hate that place.

Do it. Go. I love Vegas, but hate the Strip. Check out Hugo's Cellar downtown for an old-school gourmet dinner that has none of the glitz, but some of the quality you'd hope for. Check out Furnace Creek in Death Valley. Or the above excellent suggestions. Hit Frankie's Tiki Room for world class rum drinks. Top Golf for the experience. The world-renowned Thai place on Sahara. Dim sum around Spring Mountain. Just my $.02.

Went not too long after 9/11 and the place was pretty short on visitors, but it was during the short period of time when people were actually civil to each other. Maybe we're too calloused now as a society, but could also turn out where you get to see people at their best?

Just rolled into Vegas and business as usual. The strip is closed from Tropicana down to Mandalay. Other than all the blood donation requests and security searching women's purses (???) you wouldn't know. Hotel reservations got a little jacked because they had to evacuate Mandalay and the guests were absorbed throughout the rest of the strip.

i don't think there is an issue with going on and living your life. It's a tragedy but moving on is how people return to normal.
I also agree that you might walk into a really friendly Vegas as these types of incidents have an interesting effect on people.

not exactly the same, but being in Houston immediately following Harvey was depressing and vegas has had a national tragedy and will probably be having memorials and candlelight vigils this week; it's probably going to be not too fun unless you find the places that are going all out to keep whatever is going on outside the casino, outside the casino.
a couple of weeks and vegas will have moved on because it has to as the casinos are its bread and butter.TGR forums cannot handle SkiCougar !

Other than the service workers the population is like a 3 day revolving door of tourists.
