Dry meaning intermountain areas, not PNW.

I picked up a Black Diamond Sharp End Shell last year that I've been really happy with. It's been my go-to outer layer for resort days, sled-skiing days, and b/c days that were cold, windy, or wet enough to require a shell. The Gore-Tex Pro Shell breathes incredibly well and does seem to be waterproof (I say "seems" only because, well, waterproof-ness is harder to test here than in New Hampshire). It's definitely on the lightweight/minimalist side of things; I sometimes wish for more pockets, but I love the minimal bulk when I throw the jacket in my pack.

I have a nearly new Marmot Speed Light Gore-Tex Pro shell jacket-great jacket-worn only 5-6 times.
Looking to get $200 for it if interested. Men's size large, green color.

I'm thinking something eVent, but I'm out of gear buying as I've been busy managing my 2 hellions while I'm not working

Bumping this thread for guidance. I've been in either a Beta SV or a sidewinder for the last 15 years. My current shell has maybe 1 season left d/t failing zippers and delaming. Between Arc'teryx 's Uyghur slave labor, their gone to shit warranty and garbage lineup changes I feel like I have to move on. I'm looking for a -normal fitting- Gore-Tex Pro (or similar high-denier waterproof 3L) shell without a powder skirt. Hold the steeze, pleaze. Maybe a little more generous than a euro-fit with a longish torso.

I'm 6'2 210 with a bit of an ape factor. What should be on my radar? Points for good color-ways.

I have a rab khroma large that fits well at 6’3” 200 and long arms. Arcteryx arms are too short for me. The Karina is cut a bit looser and shorter in the arms then the neoshell alpine jacket I have from them that’s 10 years old. Both have been solid and their warranty is good.

GOTEX tm is the Gortex fabric no matter if Uyghur slaves or some old lady in Vancover made it , the local outdoor dealer did the factory tour in vangroovy sez its full of chinese women wearing arcterxy 2nd's altho you would be best with a baba-nonya cuz my people know shit about sewing things and MAN the cooking

so its just chinese people sewing whatever they were told to sew no matter where in the world they are,

I've picked up a couple of RAB down pieces on spring sale and I'm likeing their stuff

I have bought Arterxy stuff by talking to their groovy on-line people in I believe north Van and their sizing rec's seemed to be dead accurate

    New Hardshell?

RAB and Ortovox are the brands I like now for this. I’m 6’2” but waaay skinnier.

Norrona makes nice jackets, but you pay for it (I bought mine used on this site for a killer deal). Freeride Systems could be another option (I like their stuff), no powder skirt, but they arn't gortex.

I’ve been curious about the Ortovox Ravine but can’t decide if I like the colors or not. Also wish I could see one in person and try it on.

6’3”, 190 with long arms and the large Khroma insulated jacket fits great. I tend to end up with Rab or OR outerwear since they’re one of the few brands these days not designing for fat midwesterners or skinny French chainsmokers.

    Stio. Best quality
    6’4” 220 lb
    Xl fits nice.
It’s a euro xl. Not a fat American xl.

Yeah. The arc ain’t what it used to be. The van groovy was great back in the day. As was cloudveil before it sold.

Marmot and Patagonia seem to keep up. But I’m a stio fanboi
    Flylow also gets much cred.

norrona is a pretty slim cut as mentioned, if anybody is looking to buy something sign up for their email/outlet for free and most pieces are 30-50% off

This site handles returns for online outdoor retailers, there’s some deals to be had on Rab and Norrona.

I just got one of these that I’d had on pre-order:

    https://www.eddiebauer.com/p/3883297...tique%20Bronze

$185 (sale price) is fantastic for a 3L shell. The First Ascent stuff is nice quality. No powder skirt.

Basically all sold out right now. They just shipped two weeks ago; I’m pretty sure many will get returned and sizes will come back in stock.

I’m 6’4” 185 in a medium tall and it fits great.
