I wonder whatever happened to DigitalDrew and DIY Steve?

We're really lacking a go-to ornithologist with those two out.
I still call it The Jake.

So the jays I mentioned on page 2 have decided to nest on our house. They tried nesting on top of a motion light, on the ribs of a deck umbrella, and on a beam over the front door--I'd be ok with the latter if they didn't shit on the front door step. So I chase them away by taking down the beginnings of the nest if I can reach it, or by spraying them with a water gun, but it usually takes weeks before they get the message and go elsewhere. There are plenty of trees they can nest in but it seems these birds are soft and want a roof over their heads. They have done this 3 years in a row. OTOH it is fun to watch the pair work together and it turns out they have other calls besides the annoying squawk.

Last summer I watched a bald eagle chasing an osprey for 15 minutes--the osprey didn't have a fish. But a little while later I saw the osprey chasing the eagle. Is it possible they were playing?

They’re amazing. Make tools, trade items, recognize individual human faces… so many things we don’t even know. Hella smart and if you ask me, very handsome.

I took the bird house down yesterday, but this retarded bird won't stop!
First I tried some blue painters tape, she attacked between the tape, then started pulling the tape off. Next I cover the window with cardboard, that's when she started going after the other windows...

Print out some photos of cats and tape them on the insides of the windows.

No one has been claiming Homo spp are smart. Most cannot use tools. And individuals walk into and through glass doors frequently. Sometimes on purpose.

Seem pretty smart, they built a nice nest in your entryway, it’s even protected from the elements

Agree. While squirrels are cuter, they are incredibly dumb. They are overpopulated along the creek where my local MTB trails are. They run towards my wheels. Like everytime. Every other animal runs from a threat. These dumb little fuckers run towards it. Ain't no birds flying at me.

Do you hit the brakes? Is it possible you could go over the handlebars braking to avoid hitting one? They have a plan.

Squirrels aren't dumb. Common misconception. Squirrels are conniving agents of chaos. They are evil.

It's fun when they get caught in your wheel. Been there, done that. It sucked. It's even worse when one of the overpopulated deer takes you out broadside after your buddy in front of you spooks it.
