RIP Chris Cornell.....damn that's sad
The guy was definitely one of my favorites. Can't believe it! What the fuck??? Dead at 52

Being investigated as possible suicide.
I knew Hiro and I guess Chris was an acquaintance in those early club days (<50 audiences, we were all acquaintances) but I didn't know him.

The guy was inspiration to a LOT of later musicuans. One of those guys who approached his music like the art AND craft that it is.

Saw Soundgarden in a dive bar in ABQ in 1989....... Way too young. RIP.
What we have here is an intelligence failure. You may be familiar with staring directly at that when shaving. .

No doubt there will be more peeps than usual at the Sound Garden in Seattle.

NYT article says he returned to heavy drug use after Soundgarden broke up in '97. He's quoted as describing himself as "a pioneer in the abuse of oxycontin". Think the guy had demons.
Never saw Soundgarden in Seattle in the late '80s but do remember seeing Green River, MLB, Mudhoney and Bundle of Hiss before I left for CA. I grew up with Dan Peters and Kurt Danielson. I remember seeing Screaming Trees at the Depot in Anacortes in 1986(?)

Like I said, he cleaned up in his late 30s. I.e. Around 2002 I think.

Strange timing being on tour and all. But it's hard to know what lurks in the mind of others. Just a sad loss.

Great voice. One of my favorite groups. RIP

Bummer. He was the guy who turned me onto the whole grunge scene in my youth. I remember sneaking into the OK Hotel underage and hearing the singer scream and thinking "holy crap, that's insanely beautiful." It was the first (and maybe only) truly clean, melodic scream I'd heard that still contained all the angst and anger I identified with and needed to feel in my music as a young teen. I don't remember exactly, but I think they were playing Big Dumb Sex. Of all the bands I listened to if that era, early Soundgarden was by far my favorite.
That moment set the course to broadened me out of my butt rock, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Rush fandom phase of life. Saw him years later at the Paramount, prob early 2000s, and his voice was still impressive. Wasn't as inspired a performance by any stretch, kind of a boring concert actually, but the guy had pipes.

I played the hell out of Soundgarden training for my first marathon, probably one of my top 10 groups after the year 2000.
Too young, but he hit his potential and then some imo.TGR forums cannot handle SkiCougar !

the seattle of the 90s was a good time for this transplant from NY/VT. The music scene was fun and chris and soundgarden were a big part. Black Hole Sun is a favorite

The whole Badmotorfinger album came out in my early teens, like 12 or 13 probably. Talk about a game changer. I bought a guitar, an oversized amp with a grunge distortion pedal and just went fucking nuts!!
