Questioning the worthiness of the beaver as our national animal is a longstanding Canadian tradition. The beaver is alright in my book. They've got a cool gig. Just for interest sake, what other animals do you gentlemen feel would be suitable candidates for this lofty position?

Maybe wolves? You could get some cool t-shirts made up.

Heck here's a few ideas for starters: https://www.google.com/search?q=wolf...w=1433&bih=718

You can get permission from USCIS to be out of the country and retain your green card (for how long, I don't know). Not doing that would be a surefire way to lose it.
It's called Advance Parole or Re-Entry Permit; USCIS form I-131. Simple application.

An official swap should be made. Let VT join Canada. We could even agree to be officially bilingual like New Brunswick.

Official animal - I do like beaver, however strong arguments can be made for the whorey marmot and tit mouse.

ha! they are all scum sucking rodents, ask ze guide about pack rats that got into the roof which were followed/eaten by the pine martens who knocked a piece of wood trim onto the stove pipe which almost burnt the place down ... which necessitated pulling the roof completely to fix insulation and plug all holes with armored cloth
