This one had me stumped for a second. How was Tennessee the national champ so many times? Then it hit me. I feel a bit embarrassed...

You still got hummers around? They leave here when it starts freezing regularly.

Wish I was skiing, but until the next trip, I will hang out with 30 of my best friends.

Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Yes, Anna's hummers stay here year-round. Tough little buggers. Apparently when it gets really cold they enter a torpor state overnight to conserve energy.

And they get pissed if you don’t keep food out for them when they get used to you having a feeder. Cute little terrorists those things. We get them in our backyard occasionally but haven’t seen them take to our feeder yet.

    Off topic rambling commences.
So, this one time a few years ago I was walking around the yard when I noticed a hummer perched on a grass stalk. It didn’t fly away when I approached and when I got up to it I realized it was dead, clutching the grass stalk. I broke the stalk off and took this pic. Weird, huh?

That is weird. I guess it makes sense that perching birds' feet might continue to grasp even in death. They certainly can sleep without falling off branches.

“You can have this stick, but only after you pry it from my cold dead claws”

My hummingbirds love my Honeysuckle vines. They grow really well in the PNW climate.

    Self Pity

    I never saw
    a wild thing
    sorry for itself.
    A small bird will
    drop frozen dead
    from a bough
    without ever having
    felt sorry for itself.
