it actually makes complete sense. I’m sure their main warranty issue was people whose original Mount. Was not correct in the first place, and because of that they had issues with the tow piece not being correctly lining up and having Play. Now because it’s going to be sold as one unit, there will be no variables. There will not be one shop, mounting the pivots and another shop, mounting the cast Instead, it’s all going to be mounted at one place which removes 99% of the variables which means cast won’t be having to do warranty claims because there was an issue between the original pivot mount, and then someone else doing the cast mount

The whole point of the new design is to remove problems with the mount.

I’m sure you’ll be able to buy all the pieces eventually

You will still be able to buy upgrade kits from the cast website. Shops will only be able to buy complete kits with bindings.

Confirmed by friends who work there

Cast site now says “site under maintenance” and all old content removed. Seems like they’re gearing up to re-launch.

They won't alienate the DIY guys. It's the core of their business.

Hmmm, so I have my new 1.0 bindings mounted this year. It seems like one of the brake retainers doesn’t work. Am I doing something wrong? Is the part possibly defective?

Can you please post a pic or two? Retainer open so we can see retainer plus afd pad on the brakes?

The new -2017- CAST touring system thread

I hope they still have some left over stock of the older stuff. I need a set of alpine afds.

Is the touring afd a sliding afd now? Guessing not? They used to just say you could fit a touring sole in the wtr afd, but that you were on your own to test release iirc. Wondering if they changed the afd or just the name

Edit: looks like they started calling the 1.0 afd "touring 9523" at some point, with the release caveat. So guessing it's the same product

My concern is what happens when you get snow under the boot when touring and it depresses the latch to take the tech toe off the ski. With the ski brakes locked “up”. I guess at least there should normally be skins on the ski so it shouldn’t go *horribly* wrong but it seems like a potential difficulty with the design.

Also, I’m slightly pissed I bought the previous version in December, everything (apart from the concern above) looks a lot cleaner with the new version. And a lot easier to mount.

Looks pretty sweet. Brake retainer is unchanged, but maybe the new pivot brake arms will sit a little higher and eliminate that problem.

They claim this is lighter... but is it not the same weight as the 1.0? (ordered anyway...)

Really like the slickness of the new system. The upgrade is tempting but not necessary for me right now, second go around on the 1.0 mount is working just fine.

Anyone know what the 2.0 base plate is made of? Is that the POM/Acetal component mentioned in the materials?

Were you assuming that people have to send their skis to CAST to have the bindings mounted?

The weight reduction in ski mode is pretty significant. 240 ish grams they posted on IG. Dropping a half pound on the toe will be welcomed while skiing. And then a full pound lighter in the pack.

Like I did back in 2017 - started a New Thread for the new 2024 Freetour 2.0

Let's see if we can get traction for discussing the new system in the new thread, and keep questions and discussion about the older one here.

I've been mulling over a long term review of the 1.0 system for a while now, but I guess that's a moot point...
