Just joined the club and wanted to say thanks for sharing your experiences. Yesterday was surgery day for a tibial spine avulsion fracture, fortunately the post operative review with my wife was good. My ACL somehow managed to stay intact but ripped itself out of my Tibia. Doctor bolted it back down with a fancy screw/washer rig. I think it could be a lot worse, but I’m still 3-4 weeks no load the 6-8 months of PT before returning to impact sports. I’m so looking forward to 25/26, crushing the PT and coming back stronger.

Believe me, I had to go 3 weeks before surgery to let the swelling go down, schedule MRI’s, yep two because the machine broke down and they had to call GE tech support while I was chilling in the corn dog for over a hour. Glad I’m on the other side and can finally focus on recovery

You got this. PT is a miserable frustrating experience because of how hard "easy" things will be for a long while. The reward is immeasurable though.

A good stationary bike is phenomenal once you're cleared to use one. Helps with ROM, keeps the joint lubricated, and slows down muscle atrophy. Ideally low Q-factor and with magnetic resistance. Used ones can be had for a song on your preferred classifieds.

Flywheel bikes can be a stupid-good deal. They were a Peloton competitor that got sued into closure during the pandemic. Their "smart" features were bricked and the owners got an offer to exchange them for Peloton models but due to the chaos of the pandemic many of them weren't picked up. Now you have people with two bikes and they're just trying to get rid of the "useless one" taking up space. If you're mildly techy you can unbrick them with a $10 Raspberry Pi Zero and Gymnasticon software.

I think 2 yrs ago I got on a triple chair with couple of Americans and they were real telemarking orthopedic surgeons riding DPS going into Burnie hut the next day so buddy ( we call everybuddy buddy ) proceeds to give me a consult on the 15 min ride cuz i told him it was still susceptible to shocks of skiing he said i needed to do the weights so leg press/ knee extensions both forward and back/ calf raises and he didnt even charge me

I thot I would just get better and better to where i was pre-ACL tear but that was not the case 5500km of single track on a bike and I would feel my knee would backslide just biking

the pro was correct I have to do weights or the knee backslides and so skiing yesturday no brace the knee was back to pre ACL tear 5 yrs ago and so when I badge into the gym it sez I have done 255 gym visits

of course YMMV and i am pretty fucking old

Yeah, weights are essential once you're cleared for them. My PT was pretty conservative on timing for those though and road biking was out due to falling/impact risk.

Stationary biking was okay pretty early though, starting with effectively no resistance (just 10 min of movement) and building up from there.

I rememebr the PT asking me if i had a stationary bike when i said I had bought a FAT bike which is probably worse than the road bike !

you definalty don't want to fuck up the surgery my pT gave me the percentage of people who blow the reapir just by taking a shoe off with the toe behind the heel but that kind of thing doesnt apply to TGR hotshots if you look back in this thread lol

Up here there is no out of pocket medicla procedures in the canadian system but IME it was 2 months to get the MRI and 9 months post injury to get the surgey then 9 months as an incubator for a chunk of tendon hoping it becomes a ligement so if i am a dumb ass & fuck anything up its back of the end of the line SO a good reason to listen to the pro's IMO
