    2017 Tennis Thread

Let's start out the season with one of the greatest upsets I've had the pleasure to watch. Istomin, what the hell were you on?! Novak did not play shitty... Hats off Denis, dude has guts and game and was cool as a god damned cucumber. Amazing.

Milos FTW though, and go Genie too!

Pissed I missed it, but the highlights were crazy. One of my favorite events of the year. I think its because I can watch live Majors tennis at 1am.

Had forgotten this tournament was going on.

    Djokovic is gracious in defeat.

Unreal! I was fortunate enough to work as a traveling doctor for a top 20 mens player last year. Amazing what goes on in the locker room. As an insider, almost all the top guys are very sociable until they get upset like Novak did. Great AO so far. It's gonna be interesting to see who can rise up and play Murray a competitive match.

Yeah, me too. I was amazed at Istomin's side story too. Horrific car crash when he was younger, 3 months in hospital and 2 years away from the game, his mom's the coach, basically winless in 2016... Jesus, what a cinderella story. Hope this marks a big uptick in his career. He gave great humble interview courtside after the match too. Seems like a nice fella

So, is Federer back? Straight sets sure makes it look like it.

I sure hope Fed gets another. Was hoping for the fairy tale "win one more Major" last year then be done but no such luck. This could really be it.

Still can't believe that Rafa is a 9 seed, but in reality I can't believe he pushed his career this far after his knees disinegrated his first 3 years on tour - doubt he's walking in 10, but man it'll be worth it.

That said, I think it's clear sailing for Fed or Murray.

Pretty sure David Ferrer was in my 1996 PlayStation tennis game. As a 4 seed.

This guy is an ageless wonder.

Well, one things for sure. She's going to need a better sports bra.

On topic: Nadal is working harder than he has to.

Zverev causing some trouble but champions have a way to crack the code after a bit. But love to see the number 1 get tested.

    Damn Andy!

Fed, a 17 seed - think about that, knocks off 5 Nishikori. Is the path clear enough for him now?

Please let us see one more Fed-Nadal major final

This has been one odd Major to kick off the year!

Here's an interesting bit from the hot take network today predicting who among the remaining could win:

Roger Federer: The numbers don't lie. It's 2017, and Federer has won 17 Grand Slam singles titles. He's the No. 17 seed -- the same as Pete Sampras was when he won his final major, the 2002 US Open. Make that 18 for Fed when Sunday night rolls around.

Which personally I would love nothing more than a Fed-Nadal final.

Watched this American tonight that I'd never seen: unseeded Coco Vandeweighe. Absolutely mopped the floor with the 7th seeded Spaniard to move on to the semis against 13th seeded Venus.

It's becoming the ageless wonder tournament.

Holy shit. I just saw the Fed highlights from last night. 35 years old in a major quarterfinal and he was up 5-0 in 9 fucking minutes

Rafa-Raonic tonight. Really hope Nadal can pull it off to keep the dream of one more Fed-Nadal major final. It will be tough though.

With both Williams sisters through to the quarters (Venus semis) and the king list of men on their side; this is looking like a schedule of play from 2000, not 2016!

Ha, Bmills, not this time. My man Milos is ready for a grand slam. I just wish I could watch it...
We need a canuck with a major title! Go Milos!

I bet he cheated. What shitty news to wake up to. Oh well, bright side - one last Fed/Rafa major match up. Would be nice to see either of these guys with one more slam. You win this time Bmills. ....

Haha, didn't I jinx Milos last year in a major for you too?

Rafa in straight sets is not what I thought I'd wake up to at all.

It's truly remarkable what's happening with all these 30+ players on both sides in the semis. Also, 3/4 women in the semis are American!?! When the hell did that happen last?

    It's been entertaining for sure.
