    Mid-layer with Pit Zips?

Go-Lite used to make one... I have it... but it is nearing the end... anyone else out there make a mid-layer with pit-zips?

I love it because it makes it into multiple pieces. Pit zips aren't about breathability. Pit zips are about temperature control and varying the level of insulation.

    Mid-layer with Pit Zips?

Get one modified by a local seamstress? It can't be that complicated or expensive.

    Flylow for pit zips.

I picked up one of these at the start of the season and have worn it every day as either a mid-layer on cold days or a driving to/back from the ski hill jacket. It's the tits - lightweight, packable and warm. https://shop.flylowgear.com/collecti...nt=21502849348

They do one without a hood too: https://shop.flylowgear.com/collecti...nt=21486768452

I found it runs big if you're between sizes (and I mean big for Flylow, not just compared with some other brands).

It's called a Nano Air or Strata Hoody or similar form of active insulation (no zips).

Mid layer with pit zips is years ago tech and unfortunate if your'e still using. Time for an upgrade or tutorial on layering.

You sound just like the industry marketing tards a few years back who said 'well we have eVent now we don't have to put in pit zips in our shells because they are soooo breathable!' Well that idea didn't last more than a year.

Like shell pit zips, midlayer pit zips are NOT about breathability. It is about temperature control.

Midlayer without pitzips = 1 layer = more layering up and down = bullshit

Midlayer with pit zips = two layers in one

Ability to open the pit zips on my shell and midlayer = I don't have to take off my airbag pack with the metal buckle and leg strap and the shell and the midlayer and put the shell back on and the pack back on wash rinse repeat.

    Mid-layer with Pit Zips?

I've worn my fly low dexter for 4 yrs now as a mid layer(pitzips, 2chest pockets,2semihidden zippered side pockets, and collar for weddings/funerals). Perfect most days. Alternate between that and trew bc button up(no pit zips but breathes well)

    Edit: *jim jacket not dexter

    There is also this option:

And it looks to have better pockets and bigger pit zips, stretchy fabric/insulation

I will add this to the list as well if you are looking for down: Burton AK Down Insulator.

I picked up last year's on sale in the fall and I am pretty happy with it. Love the vents for the same reason of temp regulation on short boot packs without having to take pack and jackets off.

Zero insulation and very breathable material in the whole pit area.

And gigantic pockets that fit skins.

Maybe my favorite piece of winter clothing.

To each their own, but I tend to agree. I hardly ever use pit zips because they always seems like too much trouble. Anybody tried this: http://www.patagonia.com/product/men...ket/84345.html

looks like it could be the perfect uphill/cold day layer. I have the nano air vest and use it a lot.

I have never heard of this brand before but it looks like a nice jacket that seems comparable to the Patagonia Nano Air (at a much better price). Does anyone have any real world experience with this brand/jacket?

What size? I have the golite one in medium/blue I'll probably be getting rid of. If it fits you can have it cheap.

There's also an older mountain hardwear midlayer called windstopper tech that has zips. I still rock that one on cold days under a hardshell since it fits my monkey arms a little better than the golite (which has not been worn in quite awhile). Link:

Well sure, I got a mid layer fleeece jacket from the 80's with pit zips so why did they dissappear ?

I think mostly what they do is add to the price of the piece, which I assume is why mfgers don't make many mid layers with pit zips anymore??
