I live in Western Maine and am looking at options for this incredible snow year we are about to have.
Planning some trips to the Whites, gonna make it VT at least a few times, and looking for other possibilities. Specifically wondering about Quebec. Already have a trip to the Chic Chocs planned, have been 4-5 times. Thinking about stuff a bit closer to home, in the Montreal to Quebec City region. something reasonable for a long weekend.
Doesn't have to be massively steep. Anything steep enough to turn on with nice views and low traffic does the trick.
Anything in the La Massif area?
Montreal is just over 3 hours- any day trips out of Montreal?
I liked the lift served skiing in the Eastern Townships and Mont Orford, at least, is part of a larger (national?) park. Maybe too bushwacky for good touring, idk, but the ski area had enough snow and some good terrain.
Jacques Cartier national park has a few backcountry slopes.
Le Massif de Charlevoix and Le Massif du sud both have off-piste terrain, but it seems to require paying for a guide.
Vallee bras du nord, north of Quebec City has bc skiing, but also pay for guide.
Mont Sainte Anne has an uptrack for skinners. There are some nice maple glades along the way.
A friend skied La Masif last year, and liked it.
Was thinking of heading there. Sound like fun for a day, was hoping to find some actual BC for another day or 2.
One of my coworkers has been going up to Le Massif for inbounds a couple years now. He doesn't tour anymore, but knows what to look for and was pretty amazed.
Pretty sure you chatted with him at the Bethel ski swap.
I've toured off Massif du Sud and toured in the area where they had cat skiing. Cat skiing wasn't open the time I was there. I'm not sure if they still have cat skiing there either. Pretty fun hill for the day, spent some time on the runs, and some touring from the top. It gets a surprising amount of snow. No guide.
