    Android tablets

God, I hate my Ipad. Really sucks. Constant issues with the web, which is what I use it for. I'm thinking of retiring it to use as a Spotify juke box plugged into my stereo. Anybody have an Android large screened device? My phone works pretty well for the web, but, too small.

Yeah I got a Samsung SM-T350 that I got free for signing up with telus for 2 yrs and it's a handy size at 8x5.5 it still fits in jacket pockets or cargo pant pockets but it's big enough to type on, seems to work fine, I can see this working well for travel where I just surfed free WiFi and I found an android phone just a little too small to type on.

It's not really free of course cuz telus is more money than the upstart small carrier but up north you don't what you are getting and the big phone company while being more money always works

I didnt check this out too much cuz it was free ... it just seems to work

I use an Android phone and am generally not a fan of iOS, but sucked it up and asked for an iPad Mini for watching movies/reading. Old versions of Android suck on tablets, and there's no current 7"-8" Nexus/Pixel tablet (which would have Android 7.1). All the other ones are stuck at 6 or older.

My son has the 9" screen Samsung Android for mostly gaming. No bad issues. Likes it a lot.

I sold on GS a smaller one, but it was great. Listened to Pandora while doing email and research interspersed with crossword. Very nice, but tried to simplify things by selling it. Yeah, that worked.

Samsung are the safe bets for Android tablets. They are a bit pricier than some other options out there but not as expensive as the similar sized screen Ipad.

Also look at Asus and Lenovo (Yoga) plus there are a huge selection of other brands out there- just make sure if you go with one of the off brand units (some popular names that you have heard of like Sony, Polaroid and other companies) you look at the version of Android OS on the tablets- many will be older versions and may have no upgrades for the newer OS's- sometimes because the hardware is not as powerful, sometimes because they just don't invest in testing the upgrades and push them out for the low end entry level stuff.

After having bad luck with one of the off-brands, I bought Mrs. Bimble a 10.5" Lenovo a few years ago. Worked fine until they stopped supporting the OS and as she continued to load it up it started to slow down so I bought her another and took the old one, cleaned it out, installed an app launcher and now it works fine for what I use it for (web/kindle/etc). Bought one for my daughter as well and she loves it. Around $120 on amazon IIRC.

My cheapo Hisense Sero 8 just died after a couple years -- was on Android 4.4 still, worked great, but battery was getting weaker. Dropped it and screen went out.... I liked that generic tablet because it didn't come with any uninstallable bloatware.

Tried a $120ish Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 from Costco's black friday sale. Returned it because it wouldn't show onscreen text in a usable size -- would have to zoom in on every page. Googled for possible solutions, apparently this is was a common issue with some tablets and how they display in native resolution, or something along those lines.

Just picked up a $66 Amazon Fire HD 8 on their BF sale. Installed Google Play + the various Google services necessary to run it, and it seems fine so far. I don't like the Fire launcher, and there's a shitload of Amazon apps that I don't want but can't uninstall. There doesn't seem to be an easy way around those issues, until someone out there figures out how to root + new ROM for this tablet. For $66 I can live with ads on the lock screen and the annoyances. Screen is nice and sharp, battery life is great (so far -- it's brand new), and it doesn't have the display issues that the Samsung Tab A had.

I have an older Samsung tablet and it's fine, but man they load that fucker up with bloatware. As a result, it's slow as shit.

I've been meaning to root it now that it's no longer under warranty but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Still using my Nexus 7 (2013). Vanilla Android is the way to go if you're looking for an unencumbered user experience on a tablet. Google is rumored to be releasing an updated version in early '17 and, if the price is relatively modest, I'll be looking at one fur sure.
