TGR fact check…pretty sure they ski Praxis...

I read the recent TGR article on Wagner skis last night: http://www.tetongravity.com/story/sk...er-custom-skis

    It says

They make you less of a Jerry, and more like Lars and Silas Chickering-Ayers, two freeride legends who ski Wagners them very selves.
I’m pretty sure that both the Chickering-Ayers brothers are skiing Praxis skis these days. What ever happened to TGR’s journalistic integrity?! (or actually just knowing what is going on before running with something like that?)

I bet there is a reason for that choice - and it is not the big bucks.

Hmm... I'd be more critical of the glorified Wagner advertisement this article presents.

TGR has lately been churning out better articles than this ... maybe it's a fluke

"By 2001, he had cracked ski-making (his secret: analyze the individual) and took his software to the handful of big name ski companies out there. Here’s the thing: None of them cared about his new code. They pretty much scoffed the concept."

Well yeah. Unless you're a world cup racer on prepped courses, can't imagine anyone's skiing is consistent enough to benefit from (allegedly) software-matched skis. Instead of matching the ski to the hack, the hack can just adjust to the ski. It's sliding around on snow, not dropping a lander into a specific crater on Mars.

I call bullshit on Wagner selling 1500 pairs of skis per year. I would be shocked if the number is 1/3 of that.

Pretty sure that is no longer the case w/ Silas. Lars has been on Praxis a good while & I believe he still is.

The grapevine could be wrong - if you have more authoritative info from within the last 6 months or wrt to Silas, that'd be interesting.

Since we're fact checking when did praxis start?

I have a pair of camo powderboards that I got used from a mag in the end of 2008/early 2009. I want to say the Squaw competition when alto broke both spatulas was spring 2008? I think that's when I first heard much about Praxis

Who would know with how little they do to actually put any info out that shows their sponsors.

And agree on calling fucking bullshit on Wagner doing 1500 pairs a year.

I preordered my first pair of Praxis (RX, seriously) in 08/09 and I know Keith was making Powderboards for at least a couple seasons prior to that.

Bought one the first 50 camo powderboards pressed by Keith in the fall of 2006. We had tested some other prototypes on Sonora Pass that June. He was making them in his garage in Soda Springs at the time. Don't even know if Praxis was "official" then or not.
