Impressive, I have never seen a complete separation of knob & tire, so what tire?

I don't think gluing the knob on will hold in any case the tire is done

mebe strengthening the casing with AQS would protect the area until it didnt

It’s a 2.3 Butcher T9 grid trail. Ran it on the front for a while and then moved it to the back to finish it off. The braking performance has been spectacular. I usually run a firmer rubber in the back to get some longevity, but this stickier tire has been great on the steep stuff this fall. I’ve been running a maxxgrip dhr II on the front and this T9 butcher on the back for about a month. Stopping is not a problem!

Anyone have anything they'd like to rant about?

Maybe glue it with Aquaseal, then jam a big ole bacon strip right through the middle to nail it down!

I like Specialized tires a lot but they have a tendency to get a close shave when encountering pointy rocks. I've had knobs peel off completely after a couple rides. I initially tried to glue flappy knobs (he he) back on using rubber cement or aquaseal but that didn't last. Eventually adopted the skaredshtles approach of letting the tire be and haven't had any issues with flats or poor grip.

Corner knobs look pretty damn clean in the pic. You corner by engaging the center knobs of the rear tire?
It blows my mind that some people consider a tire to be done the second the sharp edges of the knobs start to show some wear.

Srs. My last rear tire that I retired every corner knob was severely undercut and about 25% were perilously close to the "knob-flapping" stage. We've got rocks out here that are rough on tires...

Yep, side knobs are still good. Starting to undercut, but still providing good grip. I have noticed that as the side knobs of this soft compound tire undercut they’ve become a little squirmy and seem to fold over

Definitely an issue with the T9 rubber and the squarish side knobs. The T7 holds better but as you've noticed they're a fair bit less grippy. Usually doesn't matter in Wasatch dirt but this year with all the grip some things had to be rethought on the traction front

Ok, I have a better rant. Working on a Yeti SB160e eeebike. Installing a new rear brake. WTF is the deal with the brake hose routing. Holy shit. 4 exterior hose clamp covers. Battery has to come out to get to the little interior clips. Then the fun. How the hell is the hose supposed to be routed through the rats nest above the motor?

There is no internal tubing which is ridiculous for a $13k bike. I felt like I was working on a prototype. I started with unbolting the connector unit in front of the motor but that didn’t provide much help. I tapped out before removing the motor. I even pulled a small plastic tube when removing the old hose so I had something to connect to and pull the new hose. Still met with stubborn resistance.

This was a good reminder that I’m not ready buy and maintain an ebike.

My prescription riding glasses are scratched to hell. So I want to replace them. They say my prescription is expired. Can I please just buy another pair of the same? No, what if your eyes changed? Ok fine I will do (and pay for) an eye exam. Next appointment in 3 months.
So you think I am healthier going three months without corrective lens than selling me another pair of what I would still be wearing anyway if they weren't scratched?

And what's cleven crazier is that eye prescription lasts one year, but health insurance pays for one exam every two years. I have "Cadillac" insurance.
So if Grandma loses her glasses after 13 months she cannot buy another pair. It's unhealthy.

Bottom line: any online places that will just let me type in my prescription? I wanted to get Roka but they aren't ok with that.

I dealt with the same thing not too long ago. After trying multiple places, I successfully order from OptiContacts.com with a prescription that was well over two years old. I’m not sure if they’ll have what you need, but maybe worth a try.

Weird, my scrip is good for 1 year of Contacts and 2 years of eye glasses.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

I used to order contacts through the UK b/c they didn't have the required prescription laws but that was shut-down, what a useless waste of congressional time on that one. I think some places (maybe walmart?) if you put the Dr's office you got your script through that office has like 5-10 days to respond, if they don't they'll process the order as written. I've got a recent enough prescription that I haven't had to deal with it lately. Good luck

The solution here is to buy a much, much cheaper bike and then pay someone to deal with the fuckery for you.

A mechanic vented to me about how mad everyone is with shop rates on e-bikes. He indicated no one understands how you have to take them totally apart to do the simple stuff.

Always attach a new cable/hose to the old cable, and pull it through the frame at the same time as you pull the old cable out.

I'm a Costco eye exam guy too, but I think our local Costco is booked out a couple months as well.

I always just load up on whatever I need when I have a fresh script. As many contacts as they'll sell me (usually 2-3 years worth), and make sure I have spare glasses.

I need to pick up one of those. I’ve been using the skinny plastic tubes that come with some frames for the that purpose (pic below). I’ll just tape it end to end on the new hose to help guide. Unfortunately the larger diameter brake hose was getting hung up on something. Going to add on of the couplers to my basket now.

That’s also a good reminder to keep a length of old hose for that purpose since the rear hose comes out and goes in opposite directions (i.e., you can’t pull the new rear hose while removing old one). Need a temporary hose as placeholder

It really is all about having the right tool. Then the designs change and your tool is essentially obsolete so you buy a new tool.

Yeah. I like working my stuff because I assembled it and know it well. I jumped into this blind trying to help a buddy last minute. Assumed it had full length tube-in-tube setup, and would take 30 minutes to an hour.

I just photoshop my old script, and change the year, and take that to Walmart for my contacts. Walmart must have 7 years on file of the exact same script, just with an altered date.
