Friday I'm headed to a funeral for my friends child....
Depression is a fucker. Kid killed herself at 13 ! What the fuck is going on that a 13 year old would rather be dead than live with a family that loves and supports her.
Mental health is a huge problem in society today.
    If you sad...Get help

Condolences to your friend man. That makes me sad since I have 2 girls in that age bracket. Really makes a person wonder was really going on.

Man that sucks, I'm sorry. I can't imagine that at thirteen.

I read this last month, doesn't seem good but there may be some truth to it. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine...ration/534198/

for sure. I have 3 little boys that adored her. Trying to explain death to my 9yr old wasn't any fun. I cannot Imagine... coins the phrase " I can't even" fits well...

Abraham I'm going to read that later. Thanks

Jesus. That would break me in half. There's no going back to normal life after that. Be there for your friend.

At a mandatory meeting at my government job, we were forced to watch a fundamentalist christian video ranting about the zombie drug apocalypse caused by public school loving atheists who are possessed by demons....here's the video they made us watch at our mandatory meeting, at my government job:

But, since I live among hillbillies, and work with white trash, nobody cares or notices when govt employees are made to view a religious youtube rant as part of safety training. So if there's a complaint to anyone outside of the agency who could look into it, all the fury and retribution lands specifically on me: atheist public school devil.

Pretty sure AFSCME could just replace our worthless, wage-sucking human rep with a PC on a desk....you insert dues every week and tell it what new atrocity has been committed in the workplace...clear violations of labor law, waste/fraud/abuse, harassment of every kind....and it prints you the one and only AFSCME response "sorry, there's nothing we can do about that".

oh cool, so I'll just keep my dues then. Nope, the pro-union white trash hillbillies will slash my tires if I stop paying into it, even though they're getting fucked over by the complete dysfunction as well.

Haha we had to do a two hour training on emotional well being... everyone was bitching about it. I'm putting this video on facebook... you're in Michigan, right?

Do you happen to remember who taught it? I ask because I just saw an update on LinkedIn from a former coworker about how she just finished teaching a "great" emotional well being class. That would be some shit if it was her.

Yup. Right where Michigan meets Kentucky apparently.

There's a real frustrating thing going on in my life here....I figured I had a decent read on my hometown, having grown up here, but it turns out my view of things growing up was unrepresentative of the big picture I'm seeing having moved back here with a lot of experience elsewhere. It's really provincial and insular and a lot of the institutions that affect my life (ski area, employer, local university, city government, state DOT, county road commission) are deeply infiltrated with hillbilly white trash who have no idea how to do stuff properly and no interest in learning. People who actually take pride in a huge variety of dysfunctions and behave aggressively toward people trying to make this place more civilized.

Vibes. Though, that's pretty much the norm in most of rural and middle America.

Don't I know it. When I completely ran out of money and had an acute back problem I drove an over-the-road semi dealing in walmart grocery freight in a 500 mile radius from southeastern Illinois. So, you know.....got an eyeful and earful of life in what they call the "mid-south". Lots and lots of little and medium towns plus Indy, Louisville, Nashville, Memphis, St. Louis, and the south side of Chicago. The only bright spot was Larry Bird country, winding through those Indiana hills and seeing skiers in Paoli. The rest was dismal, totally fucking dismal.

I gotta say you really elevate yourself in my eyes with that language.

Easier to disparage than to understand, I'm sure.

    Bravo.

Now, if you ask me, "progressive" people who talk like your quote above, they seem highly dysfunctional and narcissistic -- especially on the hypocritical demand for tolerance while displaying rank disparagement.

Maybe you're just trying for satire of NPR/PBS/TED Talk morons, and not really all that good at comedy?

Wow man that vid is some bizarre shit, especially when those gmo's and chemical chemical companies are responsible for huge funding for the right. That shit wouldn't fly up here. Extreme with a capital X.

Yeah, I don't know dude. I don't like stupid people. It's not satire.

I'm not intolerant of white trash hillbillies, I tolerate them. I don't think they should be placed in charge of public institutions.... I'm intolerant of stupidity, waste, fraud, and abuse in public life. There's nothing unreasonable about that.

I think there's a Karl Popper element here....this bullshit idea that being tolerant necessarily includes tolerating intolerant people and attitudes, people and attitudes who seek to overwhelm and squash tolerance. It's pretty simple: valuing tolerance means being intolerant of things like the church state, and fascism, and corruption.
