Still waiting on prize money and stuff from butte 100 last month. can't get an email reply from the organizer. made a post asking "hey has anyone gotten their jersey or anything yet? i'm still waiting on some things" in our local cycling group. got a couple of "ha no" replies and then my friend who does the timing said he texted the organizer and she replied that it was getting sent out tomorrow. This was monday. Butte isn't that far away so anything had actually been sent to me on tuesday it'd probably be here by no.w. Getting pretty annoyed and not sure what I'm supposed to do at this point. I don't really care that much about the jersey but it is part of the race entry fee. Mainly I'm supposed to be getting $500 for 2nd place and I guess a medal or something too would be nice.

Bummer, hope they pull through. I have fond memories of that race. I only ever did the 50 but recall one year where a big group of us missed a turn and did closer to 75. 2nd is a big deal, right on.

    Damn, awesome job Jamal!

Disappointing they didn’t even have a medal for you for the podium, and a check! Never experienced that in a paid race before.

So, finally got over the broken ribs to where I can ride/ride aggressively again, and now my left thumb and index finger are super sprained.
To unwind when I am not able to ride is play guitar, can’t do that, either.

Thanks. it's been hard to get very excited about it. Really hot, hard day. Everything hurt and I could barely get off the couch for like 3 days then it took almost 2 weeks to start feeling normal again. Last year felt bad too but I was pretty happy with my race and got onto the end of the extended podium, and was looking forward to coming back to do it for the 5th time and try to do better.

After the race I got a little food to try to eat but it wasn't very much, then go back a little later when i feel like i can eat more and there's nothing left. So, nothing for anyone else still out there either. Stick around to cheer on some friends and get my drop bags. I hear they're not doing awards because "it's too hot" and things are just going to get mailed out. No one from the race says a word to me, eventually I leave. That was a month ago now. Suppose I should try to get ahold of the winners, who are actual pros. I assume they got their money. Been trying to be patient but after getting no reply to emails and having a month go by i'm starting to get a little more complainey in public about it.

Anyway, have had a nice time just going and riding bikes and not racing lately.

The Butte 100 is "suppose" to be a big race and your finish is a helluva accomplishment. There is no excuse for that kind of shit.

Sorry man, that sucks. Have you tried hiking steep stuff? Kind of a game changer for this ex-anti-hiking ex-obsessive mountain biker.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

Thanks, BT, was thinking that yesterday, actually.

I guess things could be worse.
My friend Jay got pasted by a car outside of Salida yesterday. He was going for a FKT on the CDT.

Posted about it in bikepack nerd thread. Unreal, he's so damned lucky to even be alive. Both arms broken and spinal injury...not good for future ultra endeavors for most people but I have no doubt he'll come out of this even stronger than before being the driven person that he is. I hope they catch/find whoever did this.

I can't help but think of Mike Hall.

Rideit, forgot to say, sorry you're having a tough year. This too shall pass. Your buddy that got hit though, holy shit, terrible. Still could be worse, super glad he apparently doesn't have a cord injury, but damn. With a L2 burst, he'll likely need fusion for alignment and stability though, sucks.

Jamal the more I think about your race and awards, Man. No skin in it at all personally but even I'm mad. Sorry again. Myself and everyone else here admires your effort though!

^^ Totally disappointing to hear this behavior from a big race promoter. Kinda a thankless job already, but this kind of thing especially at what I'd heard is a big even is failing.

Rideit being down and out sucks big-time, was there myself last summer.

Generic, unimaginative trail names that county and state parks seem to love.... Sage. Deer. Lynx. Meadows. There must be hundreds of trails across the country named "Coyote Run".

Bro, that's where the super chill open space manager saw the coyote eat the rabbit... right there.

We have some good and some bad here.
    Sky Mountain Park:
Airline and Incline Trails are next to the airport
Deadline goes down to an old cemetary.. kinda
View Line and Skyline are kinda meh.. but it is sky mountain park.
I was surprised when we did the naming contest that Wapiti park wasn't picked. This ridge has such a good view of the Elk Range.

We're ramping up battles with the forest service on this exact issue. Building new trails and there's tons of good trails names being floated. But forest service policy is that the trail names need to be generic and usually geographically related to where the trail is. It's a goddamn travesty.

We don't even have names, officially anyway, for most of our trails. They have, uh, numbers though. And some generally accepted names that rarely match the made up shit on strava and trailforks.

Be glad you're getting new trails, I guess? Our trail project here has been derailed by the USFS cultural review team. They want to split it into two projects - one for re-routes and trail closures which they will approve since it will move trails away from cultural sites. And the second project will be just new trails, which they want to arbitrarily block. I'd happily take generic names to get those new trails approved.

Names that are geographically related can at least refer to a specific location or terrain feature, to make the name relevant.

There is a user created trail up in Orange County that was accepted as a system trail a year or two ago. Before that happened there was a sign at the top that originally read "Environmentally Sensitive Area - Keep out." Parts of the sign broke off years ago so it just read "mentally Sensitive." So that's what everyone called it. Of course the OC Parks had to rename it Sheep Run. Fucking lame. Tells you who the sheep are.

Sounds like this is an unpopular opinion but I hate a lot of mtb trails names that seem to evoke monster energy and lifted trucks. Much prefer something named after a natural feature.

Yeah, whining about new trail names sounds a little first world problemish when your local FS district has a firm Just Say No policy to new trails.

    Oh yeah, definitely.

Just lamenting the fact that I don't live in Canada, where they get new trails *and* good trail names.

Gonna put on a Primal Wear jersey and some elbow pads, then climb a logging road to drop into Moist Vag to Engorged Clit to Veiny Shlong.
