I'm struggling to convince my kids that its all BS. They heard it on authority (their friends) that the clowns are going to kill 10 kids in every school. WTF?

Community responds to clown craze; police and schools prepared
TRI-CITIES, Wash. -- The clown craze across the country is now here.
Even though police report no creepy clown activity in our area, they're on high alert and have plans in place if something did happen
"I'm just freaked out I'm going to see one," said Leia Schneider.
Schneider goes to Southridge High School.
She’s genuinely scared of the rumors she's hearing about creepy clowns.
"They're going to kidnap students and teachers when they walk out to their car. It's posted on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. It's everywhere,” said Schneider.
We even found an account on Twitter called Tri-City Clowns with tweets telling kids to meet at Kennewick High School.
Leia's mom, Amy isn't thrilled about all the hype.
"I think it’s terrible. It's frustrating. It kind of angers me. It's turning something innocent to little kids- clowns are part of circuses and something happy for little kids- and its turning into something terrifying and scary and I don't like it," said Amy Schneider, Leia’s mother.
Police are taking action by following social media trends.
"It's just these myths that are forming out there on social media that there's these incidents. There really hasn't been any incidents with actual creepy clowns trying to harm somebody. But it can get out of hand if we don't stay on top of it we need to remind people to just be responsible," said Sgt. Ken Lattin of the Kennewick Police Department.
School districts say parents are calling in concerned but want you to know they're working with police to keep our schools safe.
They have a protocol if a creepy clown pops up around school.
"We have systems in place to make notifications very quickly within the police and the school district. We have phone trees already set up so when we receive these threats we can act on them very quickly and this would be no different," added Lattin.
Police want to remind parents to talk to kids about walking home safely and not talking to strangers.
"It's scaring them at all levels. My daughter's a sophomore in high school and I've talked to other parents that have middle schoolers and they're all waking up in the middle of the night with dreams and its scaring them all," added Amy Schneider.
Police say it isn’t illegal to dress up as a clown. It is illegal to dress as a creepy clown and cause harm to others.
Officers urge you to report any suspicious activity.

Information: Clown Threats
Dear PPS Families and Staff,
A rumor about clowns making threats against students and staff has been circulating in Portland, and made its way to PPS. This is a social media generated rumor about individuals dressed as clowns coming to local schools to harm students. This rumor has surfaced across the country, mostly due to people reposting or sharing previous posts.
We are working with our partners at Portland Police Bureau to monitor this issue. They have not received information to suggest that there is a credible threat in Portland, but are emphasizing that criminal activity or actual threats should be reported to 9-1-1.
How to help your child:
• Reinforce that adults will do everything possible to keep them safe.
• Encourage your child to report their concerns to an adult. If they see suspicious behavior, report it.
• Listen to their concerns and ease their fears with facts and empathy.
• Look to trusted sources for information that is reliable. Social media is not the best source of information.

This is the email my kids HS sent yesterday. I've been telling her it's BS for days but the social media reports (and news media VTF posted) have her convinced they are coming today.
Dear Parents,
I know many of us have been hearing the disturbing news regarding the clown threats to schools, in particular on October 7th. Since it was first brought to our attention we have been in contact with the School Resource Officer, Corporal Jeff Favreau. He in turn has been in touch with fellow officers and security centers and has kept me informed. To date, there is nothing that has been detected that would suggest anyone in our area schools are in danger.
However, please be assured that we will remain on alert and use every precaution to keep our students safe, and along with you, all of the faculty and staff will work to support our students in feeling safe and being kept safe.
Officer Jeff Favreau will be on campus periodically throughout the day, as well as other police patrolling the schools’ parking lots.
you know rednecks are not putting up with it.
one redneck sees a clown in a park and he's going to have 3 redneck buddies meetup with him to get the clown. I don't really want to ponder what happens after that as those rednecks are known to get affectionate with livestock.
