I frequently drive a busy two lane road on the north end of Lake Union. There is a large, smooth, gorgeous bike trail (Burke-Gilman) right next to this road. To me, the asshole cyclists (usually in spandex and faux-team gear) are the ones who constantly insist on riding ON the road instead of the path.

Usually it's too busy to pass them with any safety so I just follow at a safe distance (being followed on a bike by a car is uncomfortable to me) at low speed until they move or it's safe to pass which can be a long time, but it pisses me off. Use the fucking path they built FOR YOU FFS!

I can't figure out why they ride the road instead of the path. Maybe the path is too crowded, but so is the road? WTF?
I've been on that path. If you are commuting it's OK, with joggers and walkers to avoid but OK. Parts are narrow. If you are entitled roadie trying to get a workout, you'd probably prefer to ride the road to keep your momentum going.

Unfortunately there are many other much more poorly designed bike paths that fucking suck to bike on unless you are a little kid going to get ice cream. When drivers get pissed at riders for not taking them, it's an impossible thing to explain (not saying this to you). It's frustrating, just give me a bike lane on the street instead of this meandering crowded path that I can't go over 10mph on! Or a real bike path that may be slow but designed well, like the S-Line path I use to commute to work in SLC>

Getting hit is the rudest thing you can do to a motorist. Most traumatic for everyone. Definitely more assholish to get hit than to delay someone for 12 seconds.

    Heal up fast!

Definitely sounds like Mineral/Santa Fe. I used to forgo the bike path in that area because it went up to the Light Rail stop and it was invariably a mess up there. Once west of Santa Fe I'd get back on the path because the road section from Mineral to Ken-Caryl was generally a shitshow with traffic and no shoulders at all...

Visit to my ortho doc confirmed multiple cracked ribs and (hopefully) a sprained shoulder AC joint. Considering things could have been much worse, I’ll take this as a sign to be not so stupid.

My wife was driving to the thrift on Donner Pass Rd along the lake---bike lanes, solid double yellow, 35MPH with a serious speeding problem, a lot of curves, lots of driveways with people pulling out, and a fair amount of traffic even in the off season. 2 cyclists riding side by side, the one with a trailer riding down the middle of the car lane with a line of cars backed up waiting for a chance to pass. After 2 miles my wife--last in the line of cars--was able to pass and she rolled down the window and politely asked the cyclist to ride in the bike lane, for which she got a middle finger.

She was in the thrift when the cyclist came in--apparently they were headed to the coffee shop in the same strip as the thrift--and started screaming at her at length. My wife locked herself in a dressing room while the guy continued to scream and eventually left.

I don't view this as a cyclist problem. I view it as a Truckee/Tahoe entitlement problem. And as a problem of a very insecure, damaged person who has to take his aggression out on an old woman.

This was someone looking for a fight and then happy they found one with an old lady.

In no way do I condone their actions, but I will say, they knew they should have been in the bike lane and were just waiting for someone to say it. I wouldn't confront someone in that situation unless I was looking for a confrontation.

Good idea in concept, but do you really want to ski around with a 40L pack filled with fidgeting chimp?

Oh, man, OG. You know I'm about as militant as anyone wrt cyclists' rights to use the road, but that behavior seems unhinged. That guy was clearly an asshole who happened to be on a bicycle. He would have been just as much of an asshole in another scenario.

The lifties at Mt Bachelor won’t let you on if carrying another life form. I tried with a doll in a chest carrier and got kicked off.

How about pregnant? Where do the lifties at Mt. Bachelor stand on whether a fetus is "another life form"?

Yeah OG, fuck that guy. It's always surprising to me when people are that stupid, that's right up there with the nutjobs on motorcycles who think it's a good idea to brake check cars. Sorry your wife had to put up with that.
