Gothenburg is actually a pretty cool town itself and, of course, you could easily drive north to Norway or South and cross into Denmark via the Oresund bridge. If I was going to buy a Volvo I'd do this for sure.
We did it 10 years ago with our BMW. Looked at volvo first but once the missus drive the bimmer it was all over. Down side as mentioned, you need to pay before you leave and then wait for your car. Some banks may have an issue with this. For us insurance was included, and it worked. Scruffed up bumper while parked. The major plus was two weeks in Europe with a car. Had to keep it under 100mph during break in period. Got to open it up the last couple of days there.
Do it, you won't regret it.
