I'm procrastinating and bored, which are both valid reasons to go through old pictures.

First snow took its time.






And it wasn't a lot.


Didn't really snow in December. Went to Canada.

January had it's moments:

And there really just wasn't a lot of snow in general.

Curious. Dug lots of holes in the ground for geotech test pits and have seen layers of ash at depth in NWBC.

Yes, really Saharan. It's quite common. We frequently have southerly or SW flows and all you need in addition to that is enough wind and turbulence in the desert to get the dust up high enough. Like so (NASA sat image google found):



Apparently plants in the Amazon rely on Saharan dust for fertilization, kinda cool imo. We mostly just get red snow. Not a lot of volcanos around here, those in southern Italy are quite active but the ash doesn't go up high enough to be blown to the Alps.

That's cool! The photo really shows what you're talking about thanks. We'd get red snow in the Coast range but apparently that's a form of pollen. Nasty shit, you need to use white gas to clean the bases and re-wax to get rid of the klister effect.
