    Handlebar Tape

So I am trying to find some handlebar tape to attempt to cover my car steering wheel. The steering wheel is brown leather, but previous owner must have had a huge ring or something that scratched it all up. I ended up trying sanding it some to smooth it out and now it has a few spots that the leather is worn through. Need an alternative to the ugly and thick padded steering wheel covers you see sold at auto parts stores.

I figured I'd see if anyone has recommendation for the old school leather type (fake or real leather) tape that they have seen. If so what brand should I be looking for? Do not want the thicker foam, gel or anything with extra padding. Color would be nice to be brown, tan, beige maybe?

Unsure if I would need full 2 rolls they sell for each side, so have to weight that. I also see the Brooks Microfiber versus actual leather in my Google searches. Also some of the Deda Elementi Leather Look Handlebar tape. It has been years since I've seen Brooks tape.

Reminds me of some tennis tape too. That might be an option.

I would go with something like that^^ it looks pretty nice, probably lasts a long time

tape wrap has to go the right way on a road bike SO you start at the bar ends and end in the middle, on my ski poles I started at the bottom and ended at the top of the pole, you want a wrap to overlap so that in your gripping action you are not pulling against the exposed edge of the tape and fucking it up

so I don't know which way you would wrap a steering wheel ??

There are leather steering wheel covers- but typically they have to be sewn onto the steering wheel with needle and thread from every example I have found. Just seems easier to wrap vs fight trying to sew. Years ago there used to be the plastic thread that you just looped through and wrapped around the wheel.

Yeah I put a cheap looking red one on a 66 Ford comet WAY back in the day so I know what you are talking about

A cover you wrap with plastic cord at about 1 " spacing

I put one of these on a civic I had a while back. I didn't think it was too difficult to install or at least not so difficult that I am mentally scarred years later.
