Relocation to Intermountain West, where to?

Me and my boyfriend are vaguely considering moving to Colorado.
He lived in SLC two years for work, so Utah could be an idea as well (I prefer Colorado).

We aren't married, no kids, I make pretty good money as a graphic, UI (User Interface) designer and boyfriend makes real good money as a stock trader.
We both understand he'll never get paid nearly as much as he does in NYC and I'll probably get some pay cut as well.
He's open for any jobs in finance and I don't mind to venture a new field.
Half of my income is from freelance work (architectural signage drawing), so I won't be completely out of money making before I find a job.
We have some money saved up to get by for a while as well.

We will start very conservative since we don't know what the future hold in new location.

We would like somewhere has enough work for both of us, good economy, close (1-2 hour range) to a good mountain, 2-3 bedroom apartment or house with a garage (we got two motorcycles) around $1,500-2,800 range, relatively safe and friendly area.

Let me know if you know any place fits these criteria!

    Thanks in advance!!

Since I made fun of your selfie fest, I'll try to make up for it by being semi serious here...

    Big city vs small town?
    Rent vs own?
Long term vs a shorter stint?
What else is important besides riding/mountains?

Naked pics of you will help us make an informed decision.

You best spot is SLC. Good job market. Good housing market. And the best access to skiing you'll find in the intermountain west IMHO. I moved here for the winters, but I think the summers are even better truthfully. The access to miles of wilderness at the drop of a hat is simply amazing.

    Good luck.

    Big city vs small town?

    It doesn't really matter.
But big city probably has more jobs for our field.

    Rent vs own?

Would like to rent at first to make sure we like the area.

Long term vs a shorter stint?

That's all depends how we settle.

What else is important besides riding/mountains?

Jobs, economy, safety, easy access airport to travel domestic/international... that's about it.

    Thank you!

I'm not looking for a nude beach in the area, so... I'll pass.

Will take that as a consideration.

    Thank you.

actually- the best scenario is to take your jobs with you and work remotely where ever you decide to settle
Trading that will not be as easy but something to think about if a possibility

oh for sure. My friend was just visiting and pays $4k for his apt in NYC which is even pretty cheap- If you take same NYC budget - no problemo
but for the range listed it would be tough to find here.

edit- although living on the Teton county Idaho side there are tons more options

Keeping my day job is a very possible scenario as well.
If I can do that, I'll take care both of us until he finds something suitable.
