Got J118T out on snow for the first time the past couple of days. Conditions ranged from 6in of hero pow, punchy windslab, sticky mank, and some soft slushy groom. Coming with very little experience with such a progressive mount they are going to take some adjustment, but they seem very composed and in the good conditions they were quite fun. The 186 measured at a tick under 187 and right at 1900g.

Do the Wren 184 and Wren 186s share the same mold? Or, do they ride drastically different from each other in the same width?

I have heard that the 110 is “a lot of ski” and “not that hard” kind of a mind fuck to me.

Go back to page 427, to check out SkiJitsu's pics comparing 186 Wren 110 Pro to 184 Wren 108 Ti--Wren 110 Pros have a flatter tail and sightly less tip rocker:

The Wren 110 Pro's (186 cm) are on the left and 108's (184 cm) are on the right:

If I recall correctly, I think the Wren 110 Pros were stiffer too

Thanks, that is what I was looking to see. I picked up an older 184 Wren 108 for this season and find it's a much less demanding ski than I was expecting. Great for tight technical riding, but I'm considering moving up to a 186 Wren 110 Pro or looking for a 189 Wren 108. Thanks

Got my first day in on the 2024 BGs yesterday. This is my 5th pair of Billy Goats. Previous models owned:
    2010 Non-RES (186?)
    2014 RES (186)
    2018 Asym (184)
    2022 118 1.0 (187)
    2024 118 2.0 (186)

    Quiver: 2016 Stockli Stormrider 95 (183), 2024 Jeffrey 100 (186), 2019 Woodsman 108 (187), 2021 Woodsman 110 Tour (187), 2024 Billy Goat 118 (186)
    Stats: 5’9” 170lb
    Location/Conditions tested: Big Sky. 80% Choppy/good/cold snow, 10% breakable crust, 5% cold fresh snow, 5% hot pow/slush/corn.
Conditions not tested: Deep snow, warp speed. Re: speed, I was skiing fast enough to beat my sluff, just not truly opening it up (recovering from knee surgery).
    First impressions/comparisons:
    -Considerably looser/more playful than BG118 1.0

-More “precise” than Asyms- especially on harder snow. I’d use the word “stable” here, but I don’t think Asyms are necessarily unstable, just very loose; I kind of had to ski the Asyms sideways from beginning to end of turn to keep the ski’s mojo rolling. With the BG118 2.0, I was initiating/lining up my turns sideways w/the RES, and naturally finishing them through the fall line on the sidecut under my boot, which gave me more control when deciding where to start smearing into the next one.

-BG 118 2.0’s RES does its job in breakable crust better than Asym or BG118 1.0. I was worried that the wider tail might push the shovel forward/down in these situations which would lead to tailgunning, but it doesn’t. Not even close. I think the lower/nearly flat camber and extended tail rocker help with this. I was having fun doing big slash turns in untouched windcrust/pow while other good skiers in my group were surviving. I found BG118 1.0 only mediocre by BG standards in these situations- just not loose enough, and Asyms could be slightly less predictable in truly hollow conditions (thick slab over facets).

-The BG118 2.0’s tail actually has pop when you load it! Can’t say I’ve ever been on a BG that does this for me. 2014/Asym tails were too skinny to hold much of a preload, and the BG118 1.0 was too stiff/cambered for me to bend with my 170lbs (or my 180lbs last year).

-The uphill outside edge does do that weird Billy Goat thing on refrozen groomers where it wants to walk uphill/away from you when you aren’t paying attention. My 2014s did this too. Asyms didn’t because asym, nor did BG118 1.0 on account of their mile of camber.

-That’s all I had for notes. Most of you know that I used to work for ON3P which might shoot my credibility, but there seems to be some lurkers here looking for a hot take on the new BG, so there ya have it.

-TLDR: Come back in 2025 because last year’s are always better.

ooo, color me interested. Makes me second guess my decision to not order the BG118tour pair that was up for grabs in factory finds. The new version sounds really good.

It depends what you are looking for more of. The Wren 108 is much looser but also worse on hard-pack than the Wren Pro.

Personally I was looking for more edge grip and hardpack performance. I think the 189 108 had slightly more effective edge, but the tip larger and earlier tip splay in the 108 made it a bit less of a fall-line ski and wasn’t as confidence inspiring.

I don’t think the Wren Pro is a big step and a really demanding ski. It’s just a slightly different set of trade offs. It’s harder to turn in heavy wet snow (and can feel locked-in in those conditions), but significantly better on hard-pack.

Interestingly enough all the ON3P skis I’ve tried are more sensitive to tune than my other skis. For the conditions I usually ski the Wren Pro in, l’ve found 1.5* base bevel and 1* side gets me just enough grip in hard snow but still helps loosen it up a touch.

Hmmmm would a Wren 110 pro be more suited for some lighter snow… say Alta/Bird? I’d be curious how much “more” ski it is than my Woodsman 110.

Does nothing the R110 doesn’t IMO, get something even more traditional if you want a big metal lam charger.

I’m a big fan of quiver overlap. The R110 is money.

My understanding is there is a notable uptick in charge. That said, I doubt there are many moments you’re on the WD110 missing anything. Depends on how big you are and personal definition of mach looney. The pro has an older school profile by the WD standards. Flatter tail / longer radius. If you are even Pro 110 curious I think you are doing yourself a disservice passing it by. It is designed to destroy at speed so skiing style obviously a factor. Want a little more looseness in the tail and ability to shut down speed more easily / experience less instant acceleration, go WD. Want to look down at all the mortals in the lift line that just don’t know (without making eye contact), go Pro.

Wrenegade has significantly more capability to just point it down the hill and get you out of anything, so long as you have a place to point them. Wrenegades want to go faster than a Woodsman 110. Skiing woodsman back to back with wrenegades the woodsman feels much lighter and easier to work in tight spaces but aren’t as comfortable in a point-it-and-forget spot.

So I didn’t get the 110 pro. I ended up grabbing that last 191 Jeff 118 since I sold the 193 Nanners today. On3p discount menu is dangerous. I’m hoping BeHuWe approves of this move!

Well someone bought the 110 Pro. I was getting close to an impulse buy after all this talk about them.

I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts! The Jeff 118 in a 191 is MY perfect pow ski. I’m probably going to order a backup pair this summer

I am quite curious how they will compare to the CB and GT in the equivalent lengths.

Haha. You obviously have not watched his threads. That said, I'm sure if they are everything people claim, these may finally be keepers.

I think the Jeff will definitely trump the CB, at least it shelved mine in the resort pow ski spot. Not sure about GT for an all day ski on a pow day.

But I’ve followed his threads and talked about skis with him. I’m firm on my hill that the jeff118 ticks all the boxes

Had some magic on the J118s this winter. Love em at -1.5cm. Soooo surfy and nimble but absolutely truck when needed. Exciting feedback on the new BG CallmeAl
