I don’t have BG, but Woodsmen 116 have been the right tool for me in the mank, crud, and powder, while still being manageable on groom, that we have had this week.

I have both. If it is a true snow day where I'll be skiing in pow, mank or the like its the BGs. If I need to ski groomers to get to the pow etc I'll ski the WD116s.

    Woodsman 108

So I finally got to try the Woodsman 108 at 187 length. RE the hooky feeling some get I can't I'm getting the same. I was originally hesitant with the ski size and weight since I'm used to riding a smaller qst99 but I didn't find the Woodsman hard to manage. They felt great in 8-12 inches and I had no issues on groomers unless it was super hard, which is not enjoyable regardless of ski. I do find I'm on my heels when in the deeper stuff though. I definitely need to lean forward more. Maybe because I'm used to a more traditional mount that it feels like I'm too forward? There's plenty of ski in front of me so I shouldn't be afraid of the tips digging in and me going over the handlebars.

Anyways, thought I'd share my first experience with the woodsman.

Had a picture perfect Billy Goat day yesterday! Man they just slay everything. I just love how they don't give a shit what kind of funky snow you're in.

I'm a bit covid heavy right now but not far off the 160 mentioned earlier regarding bad chop performance....man I just don't get the "feeling bumped around in chop" thing. I haven't been on Wrens but my BGs and Woodsman 108 are chop destroyers including and especially heavy PNW late day chop. So damn good!

I don’t have Billy Goat’s anymore (well, not for inbounds anyway) but the choice between the Caylor versus my Cease & Desist’s comes down to 3 things: 1) who am I riding with 2) what kind of soft snow it is 3) what mood am I in that day

Yesterday I was riding w/ my step-daughter who is a National Champion snowboarder, the snow was soft and I felt playful and wanted to pop off snowdrifts and stuff. So, Caylor’s.

If the snow had been wetter/heavier or if I was w/ my wife/friends I would have gone Cease & Desist because I usually don’t jump as much w/ them around (wife still gives me crap about blowing up my shoulder 2-years ago from failing to land a cliff jump) and the Cease & Desist have just slightly better manners at lower speeds.

That is exactly how I fell about my WD108. I never had a problem with it and it skis anything remotely soft very well.

It could come down to the size differences on a ski like that (I am 200# ish depending on my cookie intake), but I do know that Adrenalated skied them better than a lot of people I have known and he is for sure a petite, warrior princess

    Different strokes for different folks!
This. My OG and 111 kill it in the cut up snow. It seems like this is what that ski is made for. I didn’t like it as much in fresh powder. But once it is cut up, they ski like butter.

185# but more like 195# today

And yeah, once my legs stop driving them, I get bounced and go for a ride.

Yup. I'm 165lb and love the OG 191 in weird chop when my legs are working and I can drive them. If I'm gassed at the end of the day they'll kick my ass.

Pretty sure Scott said they narrowed the issue down to about 11 skis total. But of course TGR runs with something. There are also people on here who can't figure out how to ski a BG on groomers sooo.

This. If you can't rip a BG on a groomer, I believe the term is:

Since we're on the topic of BGs, I got to test mine out for the first time yesterday. One big problem I have with them is what do I do with my Wren 108s if I'm only ever skiing the BG?

Never felt so comfortable my first time on a pair of skis. Was really surprised at how easy it was to break the tails loose in powder, but that's probably conditioning from the wrens kicking my ass for trying to slow down.

Eh, I would still DD the 108.

Edit: Found a use for your W108's

So I have owned 2 different versions of the 191 Billy’s and now the SG and no issues on groomers, but I would never say they rip on groomers... Now my 98 and 108 Wrens do... I guess ripping on groomers is subjective...

That line is fucked up, wth.

And yeah, my plan is to just pack both in the car for the foreseeable future. After skiing the BG, I'm really curious how the WD feels compared to the Wren. Think I could live with a looser tail and more playfulness out of my DD.

Ripping may be subjective, or perhaps a kicking roll in football is more up your alley?

My BG order is scheduled to show up tomorrow, pretty damn excited. Haven't bought new skis in a while. Rounding out the quiver of Wren 96, Steeple 102 (touring), and BGs. Think I'm gonna be pretty happy with that quiver for a long while.

I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum. I ski a Jeffery 108, and a BG. But looking towards a WD for a little more tail.

I think we've stumbled on why the WD line is so popular

Also really curious where the BG 108 falls on the J - WD - Wren spectrum.

So probably something like stance like Jeffrey, chop probably even better than wren/woods provided proper stance (if not the tails will propbably wash out like on BGs), soft snow probably even looser than either three?

As such BG108t should be a terrific blend of the what makes the other three so strong in/on soft snow, just a bit more niche wrt to what rider/riding style it fits and even more soft snow biased. They sound like a pretty damned fun narrowish soft snow specialist.

As long as the subject is long and fast. Obviously they aren't coming around fast on edge without having to do some skidding. But I have never felt any trepidation when I have to get on the groom.

I have the BG and WD108. They are very complimentary IMO. Bit more tail (length and grip) in the WD vs the BG, but to me they ski quite similar and I find I'm not needing to change up much when switching between them. IMO both are happy with a neutral stance and both can be driven a bit (less so for the BG on hardpack but why is your BG on hardpack?)

I haven't skied the Jeff or Wren, but my guess is J.....BG..WD.....Wren. That's mainly a stance/tail comparison. The BG charges just as hard or harder than the WD in soft chop. It's just looser.

I also find talk of the BG tails washing out and not being able to handle groomers SUPER overblown. If it's even remotely soft the BGs have fine grip on packed snow and you can push them plenty hard including pressing the tips as long as you aren't trying to drive a damn race ski.
