Just mounted my factory finds yesterday and was talking to KJT about tune improvements.

I checked them with a true bar(based perfectly flat) and I did notice how nice the structure was on the base, edges were sharp tip to tail. It appears to me they have adjusted their tunes as these seem to have a better factory tune than the Jeff’s I bought over summer.

Anyone else have data on the latest Billy Goat 118? Vs older models (~2021 era Asym 116’s)?

    I have a new pair of custom 2025 SOFT flex Billy Goat 118 in a 186. I also own 2020 ASYM 116s in a 184.

Iggy said the new 186 is the spiritual successor to the old 189...so I think the new 181 is same to the old 184. He also said the front half of the ski is more like the 2014 Billy Goat.

We chose SOFT for me as I ski a bit slower than the average...and because Im coming from the old 184. The ski was built primarily for cat skiing so has the 1.4mm base & edges (2270g average) but so far I have only two resort days on it...in 15-20cm fresh.

The new 186 in SOFT layup feels very similar to my old 184 in overall flex. The 186 tail may be slightly stiffer, and for sure grips better without ASYM. To me, my 186 is slightly less pivoty at low speed than my old 184, and feels a bit more like a normal ski on groomers (RES is a bit less noticeable there). I do still feel the ski from the balls of your feet nature of the balance. It tracks through chop in the same way as my old one. I can't comment on the high speed nature, and haven't had it in deep snow yet. Hope this helps.

My only data so far is that my sym 179 BG116 is more planky and more even flex through to the tip and rail where my 182 BG118 veneer (also a Wood Eagle like the one above) has a better and more progressive suspension (nice give off the top but then stiffens up real real fast), softer tip and tail but still really stiff and supportive all through the shovel - like stand in front of my toes and afterburners light up down the fall line.

I liked the 182 BG118 feel better but I had a harder time handling that ski at -10.5 than the 179 BG116 on the line (I assume -9.5 but haven’t measured it yet), which overall felt composed and predictable, stomped drops like a complete boss, but felt like less magic and less potential than those 182 BG118s.

I had the 182 BG118s remounted with demos at -9.5 (which for my BSL I can go as far forward as -7.5) but I haven’t had a chance to try them since the remount.

I’m planning to check tune on the 179 and detune the crap out of (i.e., round off) the reverse sidecut parts to the widest points of the tip and tail to see if it gets any more eager to flick sideways.

But did the core change at all other than chopping 1 cm off the tail spacer?

My understanding is that when they went from 110 to 108 mm widths the sidecut came in and the tail lost 1cm but I thought everything else remained the same? I had assumed that the BG was also in that boat - if you know otherwise I’m eager to hear the deets!

The tail is a bit more locked in and the tips are a bit more tapered/chattery on the new ones. But the chatteriness may come from the switch to the overall lighter build rather than the shape? They are still sick, but the 2014 and Asym version click a little bit more for me in my snow + terrain

My understanding, which may not be perfect, is this:

2022 BG got stiffer tail, +2cm at tip, +1cm at tail, and lost ASYM...compared to the 2019-2021 ski. So the 179 became 182, the 184 became 187...etc.

2025 BG got the 2022 tail, but RES was pushed forward, extending the sidecut to be more like the 2014 BG. I believe the core profiles changed as well, but am not certain. As I was told the new 186 is the spiritual successor to the old 189, I believe the new 181 is the successor to the old 184.

Its a bit confusing...but the gist is that the current BG is a fair bit different from the 2022.

Ive been skiing on the 186cm 2014 BG this season and the 186cm 2025 118. Id still like more time on them but it looks like our lower mountain will likely melt out this week so Ill leave my initial conclusions now.

These skis feel very similar. The 2014 has a rounder flex overall, and the tail is softer, significantly more rockered, and more tapered. So it makes sense that it is easier to push around and scrub or handle snow with higher water content. However, relatively speaking the 2025 118 is still quite easy in this regard. In leveled out snow or pow the 2025 is equally surfy/slashy, if not more than 2014. It feels better skiing fast in open terrain and really lets you stand up on shovels and just relax. The 2014 is also super stable in open terrain and also erases bumps but requires a slightly more centered, active stance given the more forward mount point. I think the biggest difference is that the 2014 bends into a turn quicker/easier, so for tight trees or scrapped off lower mountain bumps it requires less effort. While the 2025 is just as easy to slash and throw sideways, it does require a little more speed or rider input to bend the ski into a turn or scrub the tails in bumps and firmer snow. The flip side is it feels more autopilot than 2014s when skiing fast in open terrain. Its just so stable but can still be slashed or shut down in an instant. Its a brilliant ski with just the slightest bit of room to run. Very stable, balanced platform and uber loose. Just doesnt bend quite as easy as 2014. Not sure if this comparison is useful at all as most people probably arent skiing 2014s but since its often quoted as the best BG to date, thought Id get on here to say the current 2025 BG, at least from my experience thus far, skis and feels quite similar.

My cold dead hands ski the last 3-4 winters has been the 187 BG 110 (stock layup) so I could try and draw some comparison to that ski later. I think the tail is identical on the new 2025 it just looks slightly lower because it got lopped off a bit. The 2025 also has way less camber. I didnt ski my 187s much this year but I always felt it was a super loose slashy ski and having now skied the 2025 I may dare to say it is even surfier. Probably due to the near flat camber profile.

I am kinda shocked that there are still BG108tours avaliable on the site, especially given the flash sale. That ski might be something of a perfect daily driver tourer for areas that get a fair bit of soft snow - it is such an incredibly dialed ski.

I have been debating between 186 enforcer unlimited or wood 108 tours. Blister has the dimensions and weights being very similar, with the enforcers being a tad narrow. I know this crowds preference, but anyone have qualitative comparisons? How about enforcer 104 free vs wood 108s?
